Kevin........Thanks for the report...........I have seen the extra strength-tube in your swingarm but agree with Retro that X-bracing at the rear of the frame is observed on numerous other CB750 racers. We are all interested to hear what caused the slide.............

We will be watching with interest in August............and yes, if you're in the hunt, the BARBER race event will draw a few dozen CB750 riders to cheer you on 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

This is all fantastic and makes me proud. I was wondering what oil he was using? ;D

. There are some extremely fast SHOC's down here in Australia with upwards of 120 HP, the guy building them is Rex Wolfenden for Rex Wolfenden racing, he has been building these bikes for years and is extremely well sorted and wins just about everything, maybe if you guys are looking at options or extra 10ths, contacting Rex may help, only a suggestion.

C'mon Retro,
Don't forget us little blokes. ;D ;D
Our "A" @ 124RWHP and the "B" @ 134RWHP.
To be fair though our A motor and Wexies come in at 1140cc and our B is around 1200cc+.
We like Rex are running DOHC900 cranks and methanol fuel.
Don't know if that would past muster at AHRMA.

Cheers,
Brian

Gday Brian, that was more directed at the Frame mods mate, Rex's bikes handle pretty bloody good for old "dungers" with more restrictions to modifications than our American cousins.... ;D ;)

Good to see you refer to yourself as "little" now mate... you'll have to add "fast" as well soon, seems chasing those nurses has worked out well for ya....:P ;)

Spoke to Kenny yesterday. They pulled the engine and split the cases. One of the rear upper case mounts was broken and welded. The transmission was in rough shape but the CycleX manual primary chain tensioner was mint. That is good to know for anybody interested in buying one. the bike will be together for the next race which should be mid Ohio though that is not, as was mentioned, an AHRMA event. Kenny was trying to figure which class they could run in.
I like the Mid Ohio track but it is so GD hot and humid it makes you want to throw up. ::)

A stock transmission Sam but undercut. the dogs were pretty rounded off. It would be easier on the transmission if it were a 6 speed as the clusters are closer together and there isn't as much travel.

AMA Vintage Days at Mid Ohio is a legendary event.  Over 40,000 people go through the gates over the course of the weekend.  This event is a stand alone AMA National Championship, combining points from Sat and Sun to determine the champions.  Craig Vetter is the featured Marque this year.

http://www.americanmotorcyclist.com/Events/AMAVintageMotorcycleDays/VMDNews/12-05-21/Craig_Vetter_to_be_honored_as_Grand_Marshal_at_AMA_Vintage_Motorcycle_Days.aspx

Our class is called Original Superbike Heavyweight (basically it's WERA's Vintage 5 Class).  '83 and older.  There are no restrictions for engine mods on our bike:

Vintage 5
Pre 1983 2-stroke factory road racers up to 500cc.
Pre 1983 Production based 2-stroke up to 750cc.
Pre 1983 4-stroke push rod unlimited displacement.
Pre 1983 OHC Twins to 1200cc.
Pre 1983 OHC 2 valves per cylinder to 1200cc.
Pre 1983 OHC 4 valves per cylinder to 1025cc.
Among the eligible V5 machines are the following: Ducati F1A and F1B, 750cc limit; Honda CB750F, CBX, CB900F, pre-1986 Honda VF500, VF700, and VF750; Kawasaki KZ750, KZ1000, Z1, GPZ 550/750/1100, and EX500 without restrictions and regardless of year; Suzuki GS1000, Seeley Suzuki 750, pre-1986 Suzuki GS 750 (no hybrids, i.e., Suzuki GS 1000 motor in a 1985 mono-shock frame), GS 500 (no restrictions); Yamaha FZ600, Seca 550, Seca 750, Virago 980, TZ 750. RZ 350 with maximum displacement of 450cc.

It will be very challenging to win this AMA National Championship due to the competition and well developed bikes in the class.

Here is a link with many pages of really cool pics of vintage superbikes and info:
http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=500669&page=5

Silver DOHC Honda at the top of this page is going to be one of our main competitors at Mid-Ohio.  Bruce Egan.  Very fast rider and very fast bike.  Pretty sure he's owned it and has been building/refining it since new.  Huge engine in his bike.  I've been on track with him several times on my CBR F3 and that thing pulls hard.  He may be a member here, not sure.

Another fast guy will be Joe Pomeroy.  Very reputable 2-stroke builder and muti-national championship winner.  He has a Yamaha RZ350 bored out to the max with tons of trick suspension parts and years of development and race time on it.  His bike is well sorted and Joe is fast on it.

Sam Williams will also be there with a ton of Kawis.  He has a really fast GPZ1100 as well as a real Eddie Lawson race bike.  None of his stuff his slow.
