Honda CB750K1 Owners: Update on the centerstand assembly!
« on: June 08, 2012, 09:32:59 AM »
My new (to me) centerstand just arrived in the mail, and I can't find a picture of it (installed on frame) in my Haynes manual, or on the web.  I'd like to take a quick look at a visual before I take my pipes off and install the centerstand.

This is the first step in my fork boot replacement project.  Step 2 is to jack up the front of the frame with two car jacks, then take my front forks off, then replace my fork boots.  Then put it all back together again.

Thanks in advance!

np! another note, if you have stock pipes still there is a rubber stop i think on the left side the centerstand stops on when u kick it up, if you don't have stop pipes you might have to fab something up to stop it...just FYI...good luck slapping her on!

Hey fishlayeryo, I have also had my bike resting on the centerstand while doing rear end work, even with the whole swingarm removed. Never had any problem, but read about a safety measure consisting in tying up the centerstand to the front wheel, which will avoid accidental retract. I have used the tip ever since, just a FYI.

UPDATE: The centerstand install went smoothly, and the fork boots are on.  Now I'm just putting it all back together again.  Got the fender, brake and wheel back on last night, but I'm going to have to do it again tonight because something isn't aligned properly and the disc is rubbing against the brake pads.

P.S. With the bike on the centerstand the back wheel doesn't turn free.  Not an issue with the fork boot repair, but I want to clean the chain while I have it on the centerstand.  Is there something I'm missing or do I need to jack the back up by the swing arms a little to get the back wheel to turn?

Doesn't turn free? I'm guessing you mean its rubbing the ground?

if so, you've either got an oversize rear tire/wheel. Or the centerstand is bent. Or the part of the frame the centerstand stops against is collapsed.

One of the purposes of the CS is ease of maintenance of rear wheel.

Or you have the wrong center-stand. .....or you have the correct one and are now experiencing what many other early-model K0-K1 owners did......The stock factory tire barely cleared and anything larger would be a problem.......Second thought......are your shocks replacement units and maybe a half-inch longer than stock?

Put a piece of 1/8 to 1/4+ in plywood under the feet of the stand.

I have the same problem with the centerstand I bought for my 750K1.  The bike sits too far back on the stand so that the rear wheel touches the ground.  It appears there is a gap of between 1/8"-1/4" between the stand and the frame when the bike is up in the correct position.  I did not have this problem with the original centerstand when I threw it away  ::) when I installed my 4 -2 exhaust. The frame does not look bent just a misfit.  I thought according to the parts number that K1's and up had the same centerstand.  Guess I was wrong.

The K0 has no strength brace on the foot-tab......the early K1 and all later have the added the brace......Late K1 and later are slightly taller and don't 'rock' as far forward.  I stood hundreds of these bikes up on the stands when I was selling new bikes at Thriftly Lad Honda in Santa Monica in '71.
