Hey Dave, talking about old, my wife's nephew just scored a one owner HQ Prem with a 253 for 700 bucks. Original paint in good nick, cracked dash and top of back seat and a tiny amount of rust in the left rear quarter, otherwise very nice, and still registered with the original black and white plates.

I'm gonna take a ride out to his place this weekend to check it out, I'll take some pics and post them if you're interested? Cheers, Terry. ;D

I love the old HQ's, I had one as my first car.  My old man bought it near new in 76, it was a late 73, with only 2500 miles on it, and owned it till '01 when he handed it over to me, then in '05 in a fit of stupidity I gave it back to him.  Now I really want the old girl back and he won't let me have it now, I've even offered to buy it back.  Terry tell your nephew I hate him, $700 is a steal for a HQ, let alone a one owner example.  Mind you it wasn't that long ago when you could pick them up for a carton.

Yep, I remember when you could buy a HQ or an XA Falcon for a couple of hundred bucks, but back then, we wore onions in our belts.......

When the "Fuel Crisis" of the late 1970's hit (when petrol went up from 20 cents a litre to 25 cents a litre and everyone traded their V8's in on Datsun 200B's, what a piece of schidt they were.......) I was shopping for a car, so I went to Fawkner Nissan, where I could have bought a mint 1973 XA GT "Special" for $2200. It had been traded in on a Datsun Sunny, another piece of crap "Econocar" of the era.

The "Specials" were the first 200 "Homologation" GTHO Phase 4's off the production line that Ford decided not to release as Phase 4's due to pressure from the media and the government of the time, so they gave them a Fairmont interior, sunroof and electric everything, but they still had 4 bolt blocks, 32 gallon fuel tanks, Detroit locker diffs, etc etc. If you could find one now, it'd be worth upwards of 250,000 bucks. Oh well................  :-\  :'(

700 bucks is a steal for a hq premier v8,,youll find a needy belmont/kingswood 173/202 and three on the tree for 700 maybe,,485,000 hqs got built, but thanks to the hq racing series they have diminished heaps and panels have been getting rarer,,hey wow,,im in an aussie thread,,cool dude!!err,,umm i mean mate.

That HQ racing has a lot to answer for in regards to Australias greatest ever car.  I haven't heard of any HQ's for sale around here for years for under a grand, and they were absolute dungas.  My old girl was a Belmont, with disc brake front upgrade, a fairly warm 179 bored out to 186 30 thou over, WW2 Stromberg carb, strags, and I think the cam was a 30/70, but I could be wrong it has been a couple of years, statesman interior, power steering, and AC.  I really wish I had that car back.

it has to be a v8 premier trueblue, although the hq was built in the day of "tick the box",ive seen belmonts with factory 308,three on the tree, basic trim and dual exhausts!,ill bet plenty were "pulled down"for hq racing though, for the statesiders the hq racing series was bought about to keep cheap racing around,,the hq was chosen as there were heaps of them around,,basicly the cars have to weigh the same with driver and and have the 202 cubic inch straight six with three speed all syncro transmission,,the diff and transmission get checked and sealed,,the engines are standard except for a few minor improvements like a camshaft thats a controlled item as are tyres and suspension angles, the carb must be stock but jetting is open, yawn and damage all the good old panels.

I plan on being there.  I usually volunteer at the museum multiple days and attend at least one day of the festival.

Hopefully I will make it this year.

After seeing the same easily-answered-by-searching question asked for the 10,000th time you just stop caring.
And I haven't even been here that long. :(

You mean something like, what is the best kind of oil to use in a 1972 CB 500?

Thats one. Another popular question is how wide a tire can I fit onto XXXX, or how do I jet for my pods. I also always enjoy the " how much is my bike worth" threads.
