Bear , I couldnt believe it when I read your plight, its crazy.  to me it opens a can of worms and raises more questions than answers.    Selfish me I'll be gutted, you dont know how much I want to hear a big HP sohc honda at full noise with no muffler.   Mufflers and meds are the same to me , both undesirable.

I blame mufflers for the demise of crowds at speedway, god I hate mufflers ! an open exhaust is like a musical instrument with a beautifull range of notes , mufflers sound like a fart in the pants.

All that aside Bear keep pushin your case if you can, with your ponies your a real chance to to get a result, oh and I get to hear some real music.

Just playing with head gaskets.  with the small cc motor 750 cc In the old days I used to scallop the top of the barrels to get a better flow past the restricted area of the inlet valve, It was easy to do as Honda graciously made the head gasket on those lines as per pic. I never had a flow bench in those days but it felt better so I regularly done that mod on the standard bore stuff.    I am planning a bash on the bench next week and this will be one of the mods I want to quantify.  Has anyone else done this in the old days, I usually scribe a line one mill above the top ring position and grind down to that, I had a bad day once and went fraction low so that you could see the top ring but run with it and never had an issue with sealing or reliability , was a roady.

Be interesting to see how much increase the flow rate was.      I did flow this an several car type engines so I know it really helps the cause on the small bores  so keen to get the numbers on my favourite motor.

With the gaskets I bought the copper and composite are both made round not like the standard honda ( bottom gskt with two egg shapes) so my option is to use the standard Honda or use the copper and grind the valve relief carefully into the gasket !

Well !   No 3 crankcase, I made sure it was good on the outside this time,  only to find it had run a main bearing for some reason. It looks as if it may have been put together after a rebuild with wrong bearings.

I will post a couple of pics to show how the heat from the bearing as damaged the thrust face on the cases.

This is the last straw, gunna have a dummy spit and time out

Lake Gairdner,  baby this is from a remote area with no phone coverage and I have had to do a deal with the CIA to get these pics through over the next cpouple of days LOL ( thats what it feels like anyway)

about 200 kilometers of dirt to the lake, today Monday is 43 to 45 degrees celcious on lake with lot and lots and lots and lots of flies

Salt has wind wave kind of effect from the recent flood and they DLRA club has graded the main tracks smooth like ice

By the way just so there is no confusion I didnt get the bike finished, just look and learn this year.

For those following the thread you will remember I chose a soft class to tackle with the Honda that being
750 MF        I wanted to rub gas  ie 750 MG but the record for gas was 150mph and the record for fuel was 90mph so I thought easy choice.

Well so did this bloke with his 750 water bottle,   his bike is a gas bike but on the number plates he has 750 MF so he can set the MF record and then he reverse the number plates with MG750 so he can then have a crack at the gas record.     So he is the man I have to beat, i,ll keep you updated on his runs over the week.
The bike has been put together by a club from Port Pirie in SA and is traditionally a strong performance club.    Good luck to them, will only make the challenge more fun

Another shot of the suzy,   is doing things different to me with his with std rake but long swing arm to get the  xtra wheel base , he is running the same sized wheels as everyone does, where I will take advice from fellow forum members and run tall skinny wheels 21 inch narrow and buffed tread etc for speed rating,
I notice 90 % of the bikes run really loose chain tension , must try it.

Mate !  was driving to the lake in the middle of the desert and came across this , peed myself laughing, the people who own the sheep station must have got bored and had an old boiler,  they put a conning tower and gun on the front, last thing I expected to see in the middle of nowhere !

I thought this old Honda CX 500  was interesting current OZ record holder,  as he had a unusual steering damper on the front which works and complies with regs, its off a CR450 Honda and is a small vertical mount type on heim joints, costs about $400 oz but nice and easy to mount in tight spaces, I tried it by shaking the steering and it works a treat,
just bolts to the head stem.
