« on: June 28, 2012, 10:13:24 AM »
While cleaning your carbs, dont empty the floats in a glass that you would drink out of,I was drinking a glass of wine as I was doing this, and you guessed it,chugged a big gulp of gasoline. That sh*t stays with you for a while.I will never do that again. ::),what dumb thing have you all done while working on your bike?
its better to regret something you have done, than something you havent.Except playing with explosives.

My 1977 CB750K is the first bike I have ever owned.  I was pulling the seat and tank for the first time to pull the carbs and work on them.  There was 1/2-1 gallon of gas in the tank.  Well for whatever reason I decided to store the tank upside down in the corner of the garage.  Many days later I go to put the tank back on so I can start the bike up and the gas had trickled out of the vent near the gas cap completely destroying the paint... it did however reveal that the tank had been painted over several times.  Thankfully I didn't burn the garage down.

Not a mistake I will ever be making again.

LMAO.  Yeah, stay away from spicy food for a while or your stomach will catch fire.  I was spraying stuff down with carb cleaner once, then I hit it with a blast of compressed air.  Where did the pooled up cleaner go?  Yep, my eyes...

This happened sometime in the early eighties when I had an old rusted VW bus. One night I was poking around the engine and I noticed a small (ø6 mm or so) clear plastic hose hanging loose right next to a metal pipe that it should have been fitted to. I thought it might be a vacuum line or something. Didn’t really think much about it. In order to soften up the plastic to make it easier to fit on the tube, I heated it up with the flame from my lighter, stuck the hose on the pipe and went on with my business. A couple of days later I became curious and went back to check out what the hose was for. - Yep  - It turned out to be a gas tank vent!!   :P …………  That sure raised my heartbeat a couple of notches! I guess you are in title to have a little luck sometimes..     ;)

Bart,

I've made that kind of mistake before too.
Really sucks, when you're expecting a big bulp of IPA and you get un-leaded.

My brother and I were cleaning out my mom's shed a few years back and enjoying a couple of brews while we were at it. Well, he apparently had left half a bottle of beer in that shed a couple of years earlier, and as you might guess got that one mixed up with his fresh one. What he got was a mouthful of the vilest, moldy, rancid fluid with a few dead insects thrown in for character! :-X  Needless to say, he's pretty good about not leaving that #$%* around anymore.... ;D

Just one of many good reasons why you should change which beer you're drinking on a regular basis. ;D

Last year while draining the carbs on a bike closest thing was a empty beer can.
Left it out on the trailer and latter turned around to see Dad taking a big drink.
Yelled out no just as it hit his mouth. He only drinks when I'm around so that might slow him down.

BB I feel your pain, I fueled up my boat one time just after a fuel tank repair and found it to be still leaking, anyway to fix it I had to drain the fuel tank.  I had to syphon the fuel out of the tank, I used a length of garden hose to siphon the fuel.  Started the syphon and it stopped, blew back through the hose to clear the fuel out of the line but obviously not enough because next thing I started sucking on the hose again and copped a large mouthful of 2 stroke mix.  I have no idea on how much I swallowed but I know it was a fair bit, I had fuel flavoured burps for 2 days.  The ER doctor was very specific in telling me to not smoke for at least 2 days, I had to tell him about 4 times for him to understand enough english to realise I'm a non-smoker.

Back in the 60's, yes I remember, when I was an apprentice I grabbed a Coke bottle off the bench at smoko before I realised it was full of used brake fluid. I think I can still taste it.  :o

,chugged a big gulp of gasoline. That sh*t stays with you for a while.

Having tasted gasoline before, this very excerpt brings back quite vivid memories of getting a good mouthful of fuel.
