Well, while I have seen the acronym on the forum a couple time I will have to plead ignorance/buy a clue. I may be interested as well; as I have acquired parts for a 592cc kit for my 550 but need gaskets and figured I would have to go with a copper gasket. Can you point me to info on MLS gaskets? went and googled it, multi-layer steel, a modern headgasket design. Yes, I am interested!
Thanks!  David

I can get 60mm and 62mm. I am trying for the 61mm as well. If I get 5 or 6 guys buying I can give a discount off retail. They come in .030 and .040.

I'm looking for 61mm, but I'm sure 62 would work if needed.
61mm bore.

Thanks

Got a Cycle-X email today talking about the MLS gaskets they are selling for the 550's, etc.  It looks like they now have these available.

I am in FJ's camp, I have 61mm bore pistons. But, 62mm would probably work in a pinch.

Thanks for working to bring these to the light of day!

Mike I never got back about these but I'd take a 62mm bore gasket to start. My experience has been that most gaskets don't fit perfectly on the bores so bigger with a gasket is probably best.

I expect getting a 61mm gasket and enlarging the hole to fit isn't best with multi layers of viton coated steel.

Mike,

How do these MLS gaskets work with the notoriously leaky oil passages?
Do these still use an o-ring and if so, do they come with them?

All oil fed orings are used Jim. The MLS is more stable than a composite gasket so leaking shouldn't be a problem. On the other hand...the surfaces have to be flat and smooth. On the 550 i think the best solution is the external oiling mod. I am building a 550 engine now and it has this.

Jimmy, here's a little something I did up in the tips section, plus there are some other ideas as well. PM sent.

On my race engine I built up an area of weld on the back side of the gallery, then drilled & tapped for a fitting. I wanted more protection in case of a right side crash.

FJ, initally i took the pressure from the main gallery plug  under the points cover, easiest to do IMO.

another easy option is from the oil pressure switch at the oil pump.

and yes, not worrying about the annoying oil leaks at the head is nice :)
