I'm very new to this forum, but think I might find help here! (carb issues I think)
Any help is much appreciated, this is only my second bike!
I recently obtained a 78 cb550k .
throttle cable is fine, throttle grip body etc.
BUT it does not return to idle rpms after revving. It's not stuck right away... it will idle properly when started but as soon as you rev it above 2 grand it will get stuck and not return to idle rpms. Sometimes it gets stuck at high rpms 4-5 k and others at 2.5-3k
The only way to make it return to idle is to work the clutch or leave the bike in 2nd gear as you come to a stop to force it down just before it stalls...
I have the carbs off now... just got into them today and cleaned them; they appeared in fine condition , (though I did some fine cleaning anyways... jets, bowls etc.) Valves seem free and easy moving, the controlling spring that open the valves is still stiff. it returns all valves very promptly.
Sooo I don't know why the heck it is hanging up after revving, and not returning to a proper idle rpm.
My only guess is that they might be greatly out of sync?? Is this a possible source of the hung up idle though???
other than that the only other symptoms I've had are backfiring while cruising along and the carbs "click" or do a gasp like popping when first started and idling .
It's too bad because Other than this issue it is a great bike!
ANY suggestions??
THANK YOU!
