Don't even go there....

I understand that it's easy to "fall in love" with a particular bike, no matter how fugly it might be. Case in point is my BMW R1100GS.

I can't stand the looks of the GS bikes either--but they blow me on the passes any which way they like. Not sure if fat chicks would work the same way.

Ha ha, yeah mate, and they're surprisingly quick. On my way to work this morning in a freezing fog, I had an impromptu drag race with a guy on a GL1800. He did his best, but my fugly BMW kicked him into the weeds. Great fun..... ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Yeah, there's no evidence to the claim that the later 750's were better handlers than the (way better looking) early models, but I understand that it's easy to "fall in love" with a particular bike, no matter how fugly it might be. Case in point is my BMW R1100GS.

To some it's one of the ugliest motorcycles that God ever shovelled gears into, but after spending a few months in the saddle, I love it. Just like the average F/K7/8 owner, I can't see the bike while I'm riding it, and it functions so well, I can ignore the eye bleeding fugliness as I quickly back away from it after a ride.

Hmmnnnn, I wonder if fat chicks really are as good in the sack as my old platoon sergeant used to say.......... ? ;D

The thing for me is that I'll go for a good ride, or even just coming home from work. Then I'll pull in the garage and sit down with a beer and just look the bike that I just rode. All the while dissecting it in my mind and convincing myself that it does, in fact, look quite good. Maybe it's beer-goggles, I don't know.
I have a friend with that Beemur and he rides it all over the country. Idk if looks really matter for what that bike is intended for. Another good friend of mine is waiting for the new BMW scrambler which is strange and beautiful... (Strangely beautiful)

Yeah, the GS Series BMW's are "function over form" in it's purest sense, so probably not ugly in the traditional sense, like the R1200C, for example. ;D

I don't consider myself a riding expert, but very happy with my 1977 CB750K so far.

Update; found a tank with original paint, even has one of those cool old honda stickers that's a ripped from the HD eagle logo. Now I'm really digging my 78.

lawlshane,

Nice looking bike.  It 'looks' like you have superbike bars on your '78.  I went to install a set on my '78k bike, and found the throttle cables too long.  What cables did you use?  Did you also change out the clutch cable?  Thanks for any info on this.

Hi Tom,

Very beautiful bike yourself! I really wish mine came with 4-4 exhausts.

As far as the cables go, I apologize but I couldn't tell you. I just texted the previous owner of the bike asking him if he changed the cable. He said he had his friend swap the handlebars when he first bought it and he wasn't sure what specifically was done.

Thanks for the response.  At this point my bike is a 12 to 15 footer.  Looks pretty good at that distance.  I've spent 10 months getting it ready for the road and I'm pretty well there.  Now is the time for some seat time and see how much I like it.

Thanks again.

Would you have a fork badge and sprocket cover available to sell individually? If so,  how much?

cb650PK,

Really?  I tried the superbike bars with the stock K8 cables and both the throttle and clutch got real tough to operate.  Maybe I wasn't patient enough to find a path that would work.  Any hint as the routing of your cables?  Thanks for the response.

This was at Rockerbox this weekend, if I hadn't just bought the 550 I would have been all over it. I think he was down to $650 with title this morning
