Well, just to inform you, I am Not paranoid.

Would you allow the government to know exactly where you are at any time?
No? Well, it is not a stretch to imagine it happening in the near future.
I base this on the the numbers of people whom willing or not are currently tracked;
cell phone users,
Progressive insurance "customers" whom allow tracking devices in their cars,
users of General Motors "help" buttons,
bars that currently have facial recognition software and post realtime online stats of male to female customers, along with live videos,
and in 2016 when all new automobiles will have tracking devices installed.

Will newborns be required to have a RFID or simular device implanted before release from hospital?

Will government pass laws where all vehicles need to have trackers installed to pass inspection?

Maybe I am paranoid, but I believe we are not far from having this kind of future.

I think we all should be more paranoid... I think we are definitely heading in that direction and its honestly a scary thought. I know in japan and potentially other countries they take pictures of your face for speeding tickets etc but they could use the same technology to track your movements. definitely a reason to wear a full face helmet

They,the Government, wants the tracking devices on vehicles so they can implement a future tax on the amount of miles that you drive every year. That is in part to make up for electric vehicles who do not pay enough Federal tax on gasoline and also to try and get as much of your money out of your pocket as they can !!  Its all a crock of s#*t

I can track my wife and daughter with my phone. 

The was something on the Discovery or Science channel about this tracking stuff.  With what they said they can do with this data that is collected was interesting.  I can remember much of it now but couple things they could use this for is if someone got sick with something at a restaurant and they needed to see who the other patrons were that got sick, they could and tend to them.  Another thing was that they could see what people have purchased in different areas and use that information for something, I can remember now, blaaaa.

It was interesting stuff though.  I think motocyconomand wears a foil cap too.

Like it isn't enough that the states have been farking us X amount $ per gallon of gas, we get more economical vehicles and they think that they are getting robbed and want to charge us by the mile instead of by the gallon. On top of this they believe that they can track, compile, and compute each mile that we drive accurately and in a cost effective manor? Even if they could, they still need the extra manpower to collect data  ,and everything in between to collect the tax, and check that those taxes have been collected from each driver, there will have to be someway to spot check that we have paid our road tax ,maybe a sticker or something, printers and people for that and  then they'll be  fines , court fees, unfair exemptions, and who knows how else this could possibly get f ed up and end up costing 30% more than the state actually took in.
  I don't want to tracked, stamped,or fined or pay court fees so I can be fined or anything else like that.
Like we aren't numbered like cows and milked regularly already? The last GPS I had in my car went on the side of the road,I don't use a cell phone, or have EZpass. I like my freedom of privacy

I check the "Traffic" on Google maps from time to time. On a few occasions, instead of the green, yellow, red stipes on the highways, I have seen a series of green, yellow, red dots. If I zoom in tight and put the cursor on the dot, I get the speed of that individual GPS enabled device.... and guess what??... not everybody was driving below the speed limit!!! 
 Google claims it is anonymous, but I would expect there is an address associated with that device.
 So, I wonder how many laws need to be changed to allow the police dispatcher, or police computer to send speeding tickets: "Your (car, mobile phone, etc.) was clocked at 87mph in a 70mph zone. Fine $150"

Let's inject some reality into this conversation, shall we?  Our government has neither the time nor the money to track any of us, in hopes that we do something illegal or that they one day can tax us.  The theory about electric cars and how they pay no gas taxes is laughable, considering that electric cars make up less than 1% of automobiles in the U.S.  Yes, the technology is advancing, but most state governments haven't spent the money for the equipment to read the GPS information from a cell phone on a 911 call, which is the reason GPS was incorporated in cell phones in the first place.  This theory also applies to General Motors as well.  They can't afford to track you and your car any more than the government.

Reynolds is still making the best aluminum foil on the market.  If you all are still feeling paranoid, wrapping your cell phone is advised.  But don't expect it to be making or receiving any calls.

Im not worried that the government is tracking me, but I am worried that the technology exists and is in place so that they COULD if they ever so desired. As mentioned above, it is of use to advertisers and promoters to track demographics and things like that. The government obviously has better things to do with their time and money ie develop nuclear weapons. The government of the United States has the ability to blow the world up. I don't think they are going to, but if for some reason they wanted to they could. The ability is what scares me. It is scary that North Korea has nuclear weapons, I don't think they would use them but it is for that reason that the UN doesn't want them to have weapons. my.02

I watched that too......some things to be concerned about.  One thing was that guy who's hobby seemed to be building drones and flying them around the neighborhood.  Now even the neighbors can spy on you with their own drone.  Does the right to privacy extend to the airspace over your property? Is there such a thing as personal airspace?  Can you bring one down (guns, rocks, beer cans, whatever) that is hovering over your property?  Stay tuned this is only starting to heat up.

It's not terribly hard to build a short range radio wave jammer. However you'd have to be able to sweep the frequency band in order to find what it's operating on...

You could build one with a sweeping frequency jammer or just build one at your dojo that broadcasts around those frequencies if you have a pesky neighbor. You might have to worry about the FCC if you don't keep the sweeps between certain frequencies.

i agree i read the article and  the concept of it isnt unheard of although i cant see it passing in congress

 how about most of facebooks money coming from the cia... We are willingly putting all our business out there for anyone to read, has anybody actually read the terms and conditions(im not saying i have) but what if we were already being monitored alot more closley than we thought because facebook has software that can isolate a uncompliable citizen...

I like tracking my wife when she's working or shopping so I'll know when to expect her to get home.
Then I switch from "playing" with my bikes (or checking out the babe thread!) to home projects so I don't have to  hear about it when she pulls up!

And on a serious note, we track our daughter on AT&T Family Maps. She knows better than to lie about when and where she will be. And makes my wife worry less.

The take I get from the article is that the Feds are not raising enough revenue from current gas taxes to keep pace with road repair and construction due to several reasons.  Better fuel economy, gas taxes not being raised for many years, growing use of electric vehicles will have some impact in the future, etc.  We can argue about the best way to collect the revenue but if we want decent roads you have to pay for them.  The crock of sh!t is folks wanting stuff but not wanting to pay for it.  Don't like the gas tax....stay off the roads and ride around in your backyard instead.

Both Fox and MSNBC are extremist in their views, just from different sides, so either is a bad example of who to listen to.  And you should note that both articles use words like proposed, will, can, and could.  And may I remind you of what Popular Science magazine from the 60s said what cars would look like today.  I'm not saying it couldn't possibly happen, but just because technology makes it possible, doesn't mean it will happen.

I recently posted a question in a GM forum about removing OnStar, not because of paranoia, but because I want my own stereo system instead of the stock one, and OnStar is integrated into the stock stereo.  All I found in Google on the subject was paranoia.  We live in a paranoid society.  Don't buy into the paranoia.  Don't bury your head in the sand either.  Watch C-Span for what the government is doing, not some newscaster's idea of what he/she thinks is going on.
