Cams,tensioners,cam chains,cam sprockets
« on: January 31, 2013, 05:32:16 PM »
Been digging in batcave! ;) ;D Thought we could start a topic on cams, tensioners etc. What was original, mods for CR's,early aftermarket, what's available now? For instance, slotted cam sprockets, early RC not slotted, but had 5 & 8? degree alternative holes,Jay,APE sells a nice slotted one Heres a pic of stock
RC
APE's

Now heres a few used/new cams for CB750's! ;D

A stock tensioner.what wear? ::)

A modified assembly, both wheels different? Who made?

A KOS style M3 Racing,but I believe a copy

Also H/D cam chain

Stocker

Another way of replacing, without splitting cases.......beware!

Stock early K sprocket,later F style,I believe.

Stocker slotted by owner?

We also have stock tensioner adjuster and fixed like APE sells! No pic rt now. Bill

I slotted my own but used a rotatory table and a Bridgeport mill
the material is tough to mill though.

Yes, but back to the original thread which really needs some talking about.....

So I'll posit un tesis: The M3 full replacement is the safest high performance setup currently available.

Contention?

I was wondering about the Yosh, did it also sling oil off high rpms? The rest of it sure looks better than oem! Didn't people adapt sprocket from CB 450's?  I believe the one in Samauto is Mark's. But I thought there was one or two out similar design? Anyone know for sure? Bill

I am running the tensioner from Cycle X but its the same thing as the M3 setup, sure looks like it should be easier on the chain.

Does anyone know if the APE adjustable sprocket is balanced weight wise?  It appears that it might be.

Also, does anyone know which weighs less, the Dynoman or APE adjustable sprocket?  Neither one looks lighter than the stock F's.  But I need an adjustable sprocket and I don't think the F's has enough room to slot it.

I've got a bit of a mix of these - KA Special slipper tensioner different to M3 as I'm running a hy-vo camchain from my DOHC crank so the runners on the slipper are at the edge and not at the centre. The cam sprocket is a custom made job created by mixing a slotted race CB750 sprocket with a CB700 hy-vo sprocket, end result being fully adjustable hy-vo sprocket! The front camchain slipper blade is also custom made using a CB250 tensioner arm that is then cut down to fit the CB750 SOHC tunnel. The combination of all of these seems to offer less cam chain turning resistance than using a high performance chain and slipper tensioner on my CB350 or 500 twins

It all works real nice :D
