Center Stand on a CB 500

Without a stock exhaust to provide a stop for the centerstand, has anyone figured out a clean way to make a place for it to rest in the up position?

The dirty girl-1976 cb750k, Ebay 836, Tracy bodykit
Round top carbs w/ 38 pilots, middle needle position, airscrew 7/8ths out, 122 main jet
Stock airbox w/ drop in K&N, Hooker 4-1

Don't trust me alone with a claw hammer and some pliers

Here's what I did...



I mounted a small scrap of steel bar to the right leg of the center stand.  When the stand is up, the bar rests against the rear brake stay rod.  There's also a piece of hose around the piece of steel to keep it from clanking against the rod.

Simple tab welded to the stand works great on my 71 cb500.


As a temporary fix before I had my frame apart, I've used a longer bolt on one of the center stand clamps, attaching some flat steel which went back and limited movement (hard to explain), maybe this drawing helps:
