Topic: What's the minimum safe oil pressure for a 750K3 ?

My oil light came on today at a stop light – but – I have a pressure gauge mounted on the main galley. The gauge read just below 20 PSI at idle which I thought was OK. Is it?

I don't think my K6 or K8 ever gave me a reading below 40 at idle when hot. you might check to see what's going on. What does it read at say 4k rpms when hot?

Usually about 70.
Lowest is about 60. That's after 45 mins on the freeway at 5,500rpm on a 90deg day.

The oil light sender is set @ 7psi, I would consider it the minimum.

My oil pressure at the galley is 60+ when cold, 20psi when fully warmed - with 15W-40 Delvac.   Delvac is my winter oil and after hard run on particularly warm day it showed even 10psi.

For summer I use Castrol 20W-50 and the idle, fully warmed up pressure is never less than 20psi. 

I am confident those are good values.

just started today. did it 3 times.

Put a new oil sender unit in. Bet the old one is gunked up....
I would trust a gauge more than a 40 year old idiot light, Just sayinnnn

Well, I started it up this afternoon to go home from work. The idiot light came on for a second & went out as usual. It didn't come on again.
Pressure was normal while cold & after warm up.
