Don did you ever figure out why your AN lines were leaking?  Any one know if these AN and npt connections need to be sealed, locktite, plumbing tape?

The former builder said he couldn't get them leak tight and had too much of a problem simply attaching them to the engine after affixing them to the oil lines.  As far as I can tell, oil was leaking out of the joints of the fittings, so it appears they were not sealed properly.

Aside from the leaking, I busted my knuckles trying to get those fittings to sit into the recess next to the crankcase. The prior builder said that might be why they leaked but I'm not so sure about that.

Well I think I will buy mine through Amazon, if the look like they wont work and I don't mess them up they will take it back, amazon prime is good.  Thanks for your thoughts it gives he some insight and a heads up.  I'll let you know how it goes.  Now that I think of it I may pull the ones off the oil cooler and see how they fit?  Sometimes I just know I'm not as dumb as I look.

Stay well, Greg

Hi guys, still out here we are.  Wife went back in to the hospital, Arterial Fibrillation.  Her heart beats erratically.  They didn't convert her back to sinus rhythm after trying for 3 days.  We went back for a procedure to ultra sound the back of her heart by going down her throat, that's ok.  While there the zapped her to stop her heard then restart to set the rhythm, it went well the first time.  Were all home now but worried about the future, getting older sucks sometimes.

But have tinkered with the bike here and there, rebuilt the alum electrical pan under the see to a heavier sheet of aluminum.  Also re did the bracket the holds the rear of the  Manx tank in to a 1 piece unit with only one bolt to remove so the stock tank can be used when more fuel capacity is needed.  I had some braided sleeve material left over from when I used to build RC cars and trucks, it was just large enough to cover 1/4 fuel lines for the Manx tank. I'm trying to put together an order for oil and fuel lines so had to figure out a way to place the after market valve cover breather, of course the valve cover nipple is 1/2"and the filter nipple is 3/8", same ol #$%* different day.  I found a small piece of vinyl tubing to fit over the 3/8 nipple and the 1/2" hose fit it just right.  In that process I needed to figure out an attachment for the rear brake switch.  Burned up some time on that one until I decided to make my own bracket to fit on the right rear frame engine holder then the filter can be attached to the bolt that holds the rear of the crankcase on.  Really excided to announce my seat has found an upholster and has been delivered to him to construct, hopefully 10 days or so.  This guy is good but its too important part of the bike you see for me to screw it up.  I'll Try to get some photos up of the stuff above tomorrow.  HAPPY BIRTHDAY "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA"

Yikes. I can only imagine that stopping and restarting someone's heart, especially the closest person in your life, must be nerve-racking. Glad it went well and sorry you are both having to experience this.

Best wishes to you both.

Hey Master looks like you have seen better days as well!  I hope your getting better.  Here are the photos I spoke of

1- Oil Tank Kit, only parts I will be using are the 4 acorn nuts.
2- I'm making two bars that will hold the Tank, the bars will be set in rubber type material to dampen vibration.
3- Is proof of concept, that one is in steel, but will be re made in aluminum like the other one.
4- I re made the electrical seat pan in thicker aluminum.
5- I remade the device to hold the longer Manx tank, the assembly can now be removed with the one bolt then switch to the larger shorter stock tank.
6- is the brake Light switch bracket I made and also used the original switch spot for the valve cover Breather.

Did I mention I dropped off the seat for upholstery?  Is that a light at the end of the tunnel?  I will walk into the light!  Hope you all had a great weekend birthday celebration.

105' last week, hard to work in that for a geezer, but also losing some weight.  Busted the bike down and have been cleaning up the frame.  Hope to get it to the welder this coming week.  No news on the seat upholstery work?  Also trying to get my Century Arabian in the water next week too.  Plan to tune the carb tomorrow and get it in Folsom lake Tuesday, if there's any water left. How about Devins new project, Wild!

Completely rebuilt my carb lines to a more appropriate size.  A few shots of Devins Oil tank.  I opted to mount it a little differently.  I made two alum bars bolted to the tank which are themselves bolted to the frame isolated in neoprene/rubber to help control vibration.

I like the idea of the vibration isolators (neoprene mount bushings).

That is one organized garage -- check out the storage bin rack system!

#$%* I just lost a complete half hour of an update reply trying to attach the second picture.  When will I learn, do it on Word and paste it in.  Have never lost anything in word.

It’s been hectic around here but I have made progress on the build.  Back from the powder coater is are the Headers in Titanium w/ceramic coating on the inside, in an aluminum color are the frame, swingarm, horn rings and engine mounts.  From the upholsterer I received the seat, I chose a soft brown leather with some lighter stitching in a diamond pattern. He built a pan for it and attached it with Velcro, which I had not asked him to do, on the bottom and snaps that I purchased in a copper tone for the perimeter.  I think it came out very well.
I have begun the finish paint on the two tanks and set, results to date are less than stellar.  I built a spray room within the garage and began with the seat by laying a coat of Alsa Killer Kan Jet Black.  It never glossed over which is necessary to get the chrome look they say in the following steps, then laid a coat of Killer Khrome Mirra Clear which I thought would bring the gloss need to get the metal look in the next step.  It did not work as advertised.  It was a hot day 83 and max spray temp was 90 so I was well in bounds.  Not in my favor, I bought this paint last year, put it in the house and turned the cans every month, could have been a factor.
What I ended up with was not a chrome look.  Luckily for me I really had not wanted a chrome look but an aluminum look.  There are two more clear coats too be done the last a 2k clear to make them gas safe.  The tone appears like raw oiled steel.  Its growing on me, I may like it?  I used to do some airbrushing and have been teaching myself to be able to do panel lines and rivets which would break up the plainness of the steel and add some interest to it.  The jury is still out on that one.  Next I plan to get the engine in the frame and begin final assembly as time allows.  Paint wise I will fix the black I shot on the Manx tank then shoot the stock tan in black before attempting to match the seats steel look when I do the Killer Khrome look.
Pray for me.

Also need to know what everyone else is doing to keep the rear of the carbs from falling down when there is no air box to hold them up?  Seems to me there should be a bracket or brace, there is a lot of weight there?

Thoughts?

Hey Bill glad to hear your still kicking out there, Is it snowing yet?  I just had my pool empty about 3" of depth this morning.  Apparently from the earthquake in Napa.  My dog was up and out by the pool barking his head off at three in the morning and he never does that.  Wife thought some animal had gotten in the yard. I sleep through it all.  Wasn't till I heard there had been an earthquake and went around to check the property even though were a bit out of its range.  Didn't see anything til I got to the pool and it was 2" below the lip of the entrance to the skimmer which would normally an inch or more above the lip.  Then I could see at one end of the pool where it had sloshed over in waves, luckly have a good drainage system so most of it was gone.  Checked the auto filler and it was working.  So as hard as it is to believe I think that was what happened.  If it stays wet for a couple of days then it may have a broken line somewhere underground! Oh Great!$$$$  But I don't think so.

Well I have a consumer alert. Beware of DUPLICOLOR (KEY WORD DUP) wax and grease remover.  Its nothing more than Acetone, it ruined my paint.  Its a new can as my other was nearly low but a different brand and has always worked well and get this that brand name is "Kleen Strip".  Its a prep all used before sanding or painting, like a liquid tack rag.  Their going to hear from me.  Anyway I have had to strip it all down, started using sand paper when I realized to use the Duplicolor which zipped off the many Two layers of primer, 1 layer of gloss black and one layer of Gloss Clear.  Then I started at 400 grit, 600, 1000, 1500, 2000 and 2500.  When I got done with that I used my da sander with appro. pad and compound to see if it was going to gloss up the gel coat again?  And it does!! Yea something worked.  So tomorrow if I'm not hiring someone to fill in my pool I will finish the compound then the Polish and I should be back where I started from so  many months ago.  yike's. I think I have a photo of what it looked like when I got done stripping, looks better in the photo than it really was. So pics should be

new tank
Tank with all the layers just before the chroming part goes on
After everything was stripped off
and stock tank through primer, black and clear ready for chrome but shoot it until the manx is ready as well.

well  back to work to pay for this whole mess, at least the boat runs I must be doing something right and didn't get killed diving out of the way of some jerk who wanted to park his car where mine was at 70MPH!  thank god for the wife's Mercedes. Had it been my truck I would likely be in the morgue.  anyway outta here, later!

Between paint mishaps, an earthquake and a car accident, you've been having an eventful weekend for all the wrong reasons.

Way to keep at it, Greg.  Looking forward to the new paint.
