105' last week, hard to work in that for a geezer, but also losing some weight.  Busted the bike down and have been cleaning up the frame.  Hope to get it to the welder this coming week.  No news on the seat upholstery work?  Also trying to get my Century Arabian in the water next week too.  Plan to tune the carb tomorrow and get it in Folsom lake Tuesday, if there's any water left. How about Devins new project, Wild!

Completely rebuilt my carb lines to a more appropriate size.  A few shots of Devins Oil tank.  I opted to mount it a little differently.  I made two alum bars bolted to the tank which are themselves bolted to the frame isolated in neoprene/rubber to help control vibration.

I like the idea of the vibration isolators (neoprene mount bushings).

That is one organized garage -- check out the storage bin rack system!

#$%* I just lost a complete half hour of an update reply trying to attach the second picture.  When will I learn, do it on Word and paste it in.  Have never lost anything in word.

It’s been hectic around here but I have made progress on the build.  Back from the powder coater is are the Headers in Titanium w/ceramic coating on the inside, in an aluminum color are the frame, swingarm, horn rings and engine mounts.  From the upholsterer I received the seat, I chose a soft brown leather with some lighter stitching in a diamond pattern. He built a pan for it and attached it with Velcro, which I had not asked him to do, on the bottom and snaps that I purchased in a copper tone for the perimeter.  I think it came out very well.
I have begun the finish paint on the two tanks and set, results to date are less than stellar.  I built a spray room within the garage and began with the seat by laying a coat of Alsa Killer Kan Jet Black.  It never glossed over which is necessary to get the chrome look they say in the following steps, then laid a coat of Killer Khrome Mirra Clear which I thought would bring the gloss need to get the metal look in the next step.  It did not work as advertised.  It was a hot day 83 and max spray temp was 90 so I was well in bounds.  Not in my favor, I bought this paint last year, put it in the house and turned the cans every month, could have been a factor.
What I ended up with was not a chrome look.  Luckily for me I really had not wanted a chrome look but an aluminum look.  There are two more clear coats too be done the last a 2k clear to make them gas safe.  The tone appears like raw oiled steel.  Its growing on me, I may like it?  I used to do some airbrushing and have been teaching myself to be able to do panel lines and rivets which would break up the plainness of the steel and add some interest to it.  The jury is still out on that one.  Next I plan to get the engine in the frame and begin final assembly as time allows.  Paint wise I will fix the black I shot on the Manx tank then shoot the stock tan in black before attempting to match the seats steel look when I do the Killer Khrome look. Pray for me.
Anyone interested in my boat build I mentioned and the maiden shake down launch and see a slide show and video at

Also need to know what everyone else is doing to keep the rear of the carbs from falling down when there is no air box to hold them up?  Seems to me there should be a bracket or brace, there is a lot of weight there?

Thoughts?

Hey Bill glad to hear your still kicking out there, Is it snowing yet?  I just had my pool empty about 3" of depth this morning.  Apparently from the earthquake in Napa.  My dog was up and out by the pool barking his head off at three in the morning and he never does that.  Wife thought some animal had gotten in the yard. I sleep through it all.  Wasn't till I heard there had been an earthquake and went around to check the property even though were a bit out of its range.  Didn't see anything til I got to the pool and it was 2" below the lip of the entrance to the skimmer which would normally an inch or more above the lip.  Then I could see at one end of the pool where it had sloshed over in waves, luckly have a good drainage system so most of it was gone.  Checked the auto filler and it was working.  So as hard as it is to believe I think that was what happened.  If it stays wet for a couple of days then it may have a broken line somewhere underground! Oh Great!$$$$  But I don't think so.

Well I have a consumer alert. Beware of DUPLICOLOR (KEY WORD DUP) wax and grease remover.  Its nothing more than Acetone, it ruined my paint.  Its a new can as my other was nearly low but a different brand and has always worked well and get this that brand name is "Kleen Strip".  Its a prep all used before sanding or painting, like a liquid tack rag.  Their going to hear from me.  Anyway I have had to strip it all down, started using sand paper when I realized to use the Duplicolor which zipped off the many Two layers of primer, 1 layer of gloss black and one layer of Gloss Clear.  Then I started at 400 grit, 600, 1000, 1500, 2000 and 2500.  When I got done with that I used my da sander with appro. pad and compound to see if it was going to gloss up the gel coat again?  And it does!! Yea something worked.  So tomorrow if I'm not hiring someone to fill in my pool I will finish the compound then the Polish and I should be back where I started from so  many months ago.  yike's. I think I have a photo of what it looked like when I got done stripping, looks better in the photo than it really was. So pics should be

new tank
Tank with all the layers just before the chroming part goes on
After everything was stripped off
and stock tank through primer, black and clear ready for chrome but shoot it until the manx is ready as well.

well  back to work to pay for this whole mess, at least the boat runs I must be doing something right and didn't get killed diving out of the way of some jerk who wanted to park his car where mine was at 70MPH!  thank god for the wife's Mercedes. Had it been my truck I would likely be in the morgue.  anyway outta here, later!

Between paint mishaps, an earthquake and a car accident, you've been having an eventful weekend for all the wrong reasons.

Way to keep at it, Greg.  Looking forward to the new paint.

Ya Don, he who dares win's- Any adventures of late?

BrandEn, I bought the fender off flea bay, off a Honda I think it may have been an newer F model and I have it turned around backwards.

Bankerdanny, Yes the other 900 lb gorilla in the room.  It has a mercruser (ford) 351w (Windsor) the original was rated at 233hp but my parts engine had an aluminum oil pan, a Holly 4 barrel on an Edlebrock alum performer intake manifold, I bought it for the block but hey, if you got it flaunt it. so not sure how many pony's are jumping around in there.  But when its only pushing 16.5' of fiberglass, its exciting!

Ive been picking up some paint polishing equip, is working good on the tank and Im hoping to get that boat shined up buy may have to do over winter. The autos are due though, Its a little work but very rewarding.

Hey anybody doing anything to their powdercoat, waxing? additional Clear Coat like 2k? or run what ya brung?

Now if I can just make enough to put fuel in this suckers!

Thanks Guys, update in a couple of days, unless the pool cracks or I get more commissions.

Hey Greg,

No real adventures. Took the little 550 out for a late afternoon Sunday ride yesterday - across the SouthBay bridges and through Palos Verdes. A great little ride for a couple of hours. Good times.

Back to the grind today.

Today was so bad I don't even want to talk about it.  Yesterday was better, forgot to take photos of the empty frame, oh well here are some with the engine in, and my back is killing me today.  Wish I had a teenager around.

Today I accomplished the installation of the oil filter, oil sandwich, An lines and cooler.  Finished up the motor mounts and the items some of them hold. Thanks out to calj737 helping out getting my memory kick started, pardon the pun!  Made some progress in the Killer Chrome tank painting arena, but just when it began to look like it might work-ran out of Killer Chrome!

Well hung the carbs again, had to take the boots off and soften them up to get them on again. Not too bad.  Decided to tackle some way to hold them up.  Came up with an idea to build a brace, added it to the bracket at the back of the carps that holds the choke cable worked out great, easier said than done, so what's new, drilled a 1/4" hole in the bracket, made a 3" brace twice, didn't like the first one, drilled some lightening holes, mounted it to the bracket place the hole for the top screw in the frame, drilled it and tapped for  1/4 x 20 then remounted.  I think it will do the trick nicely now have relived my concerns with them dropping out of their boots.  Next came the swing arm from hell. Took some time to grind some weeping groves in the collar for the grease to wick out to the bearings as per Hondaman.   FYI for those who haven't done it yet, remember to have them tape off the area on the frame where the swing arm bolt go's threw and its bearing surface on the swing arm.  Once I cleaned them both off still had a hell of a time getting that arm in.  Can attest powder coat can take a beating with a plastic hammer I was about to start sanding down the new dust caps.  Next went in the Gorden kit only had to chase about 3 screw holes and all is well. Well I'm not generating much interest but its fun to do so here is an update over the last 3 days. Tackled the coil mounting problem.  I made an aluminum bracket to affix the single bolt hole in the front to the frame, then drilled and tapped the two rear holes in the frame. Made a couple of rubber gaskets to isolate some of the vibration, though I don't think their subject to much.

Then I got the Alternator and clutch covers on. Oil tank was next along with arm wrestling the braided stainless/AN fitting oil lines on.  Don, remember what you said about yours leaking, I feel your pain!  If this runs and doesn't leak, well would be a red letter day and go out to buy a loto ticket. Next  turned my attention to the seat and battery mount. Decided to dump the aluminum B-52 screws and replace with stainless.  Its getting about time to get the front end back on so see ya later.
