It will be long wait..........something akin to this thread ;).......but for XR lovers............XR750 iron head #1 ..........as in Serial No. "1" is in my friend's garage  (been there since the original engineering was track-test when he was a junior engineer at H.D.) and is now being re-assembled to prepare for funding his retirement ;D ;D ;D.........Look for it at the Las Vegas auctions in January of 2017.

Powderman..............I am confident you will get your XR to the run-way in Wilmington...........make sure the brakes are good ;)  If you could use any fine-tuning tips..........Mert Lawill's factory-tuner lives a few miles from me 8)


What will be a long wait? Not near as long as the 39 years I've waited so far, it will run this season. Where do you live that I might be able to pick that tuners brain?
The only real modern upgrade to this build was the addition of triple 4 piston Hawg Halters, I think I have more than enough brakes for this 331lb bike.

Went away from the 2 piece caliper mount and went with a one pice that is twice the thickness. Pretty much done with the front swap. Time to address the motor before getting to the back wheel swap.








Had to slow down the work a bit while my hand heals from the chemical burn I got when a hole popped in my glove digging parts out of the powder coating stripper bin:

I will get the auction number, he listed a  set of Barnes wheels, 19 inch no side hubs. For 499 BIN..about 3 days ago, they are gone now..
 I expected the Kimtabs to bring at least 800-1 grand or more and that the reserve would be high, they were at 480 ish..reserve not met when I found them.
 When you click on the number it will only show one pic..but beside the title you can click on see original listing. At first i thought it was only one wheel..

I recently saw an auction where the guy had about 6 sets of Morris mag wheels brand new, they were apparently made for Harley sportsters, $225 a set....

Some Morris have been quite reasonable. Of late.. The HD ones are sometimes reasonable , but you have 5 hole on the front, and that sporty rear shown is 8 bolt, the other side I think 4.. That would have been Sporty drum brake.  The worst part about Morris is the 18,s are skinny unless you luck into a manesium wider race version..missed one in Britain last year 150 ish US.. But shipping was about the same amount..

I really tossed and turned about buying a set of them, they were brand new,,!!, it was the skinny sizes that turned me off eventually... Although I know a guy that can widen them...

I dont mind adapting wheels if i have access to lathe and mill , but for some it can get to expensive to hire it out. If anyone has a wrecked Morris rear for 750, i would buy the bearing plates.

I actually bought 2 sets of Kawasaki Morris clones to get a set widened... I like that style of wheel, or the campagnolo's...

My CB750 Kimtab on EBay has stalled at $260 with 3 days left. Hopefully it'll pick up steam when it nears the closing.

Powder coated the front fender black and masked off the center black stripe in prep for the Spring Gold paint. Also powder coated all the fender hardware Matte Black as I plan on blacking out all the chrome on the bike. The only problem I have now is whether to black the exhaust system out like I ha planned. But a friend paid me for $65 worth of powder coating with a brand new set of EMGO Triumph replacement mufflers he bought 10 years ago and never used, I can't see blacking out a nice new set of chrome mufflers, so I may leave the exhaust chrome.
