This rainy Memorial Day I became the proud owner of another CB550, a year older than my rider and quite a bit less whole than the first one was when I got it. No carbs, no tank, no seat . . .sound forks, good hubs, engine turns over smoothly, rims might be salvageable, and the frame looks straight and seems solid, if rusty. Started tearing it down, then decided that the garage is cluttered enough -- I need to be systematic about this.
The most important part for me is the engine. Sooner or later, my '75 will need all those 40-year-old gaskets and rubber parts replaced, and tearing down the '74 engine will provide safe practice. And maybe in three or four years, some two-wheeled creation will roll out of the garage and actually run. So I call this bike"the Blank Canvas".
