Show your Honda mower.
« on: June 10, 2013, 08:00:42 PM »
Steve-o got the first look, but just picked this up on Craigslist for $240. 3-speed, self-propelled, new carb, sharp blades. Left my yard looking good just awhile ago.]

That's the best mower Honda has made. Had mine for 13 years, then gave to son for his new house. I went and bought a new Honda with the Smart Drive. They suck, went online to see if I was only person with tyranny problem. Nope , seem everyone is complaining about their new model Honda. They're are little spring rachets in the rear wheels that load up with crud and stop you from pulling the mower backward. Also for some reason the rear axle corrodes where it goes through the gear box and the frame, and causes the axle to turn very hard backwards. I filled my trans box up with Lucus pure synthetic oil additive. Helped a little. I bought a Cub Cadet with the caster wheels. Love it!!.

This little dude is thirty years old this summer. Wifey mows 1.5 acres so that's a lot of back n forth around trees with a 38" deck. It's a 13hp twin cyl liquid, just a great little engine. The engineer who designed this thing was a mad man.

Bought a new Honda mower in 1995 after using Toro many years. Cut was nice, but started to burn oil after 30 days. Ended up having to monitor the oil loss to prove to Honda and the dealer something was wrong. Got to the point the oily exhaust was making me sick. Called the dealer and told him I was going to the Better Business Bureau and in a week I had a full refund. Went out and bought another new Toro and that was the last Honda mower I would buy.

Ask him about "goat's head" weeds...  Little spiked monsters that pierce your footwear and if stepped on barefooted will make you bleed and limp for days.
The Buffalo grass is like the south's kudzu...it is a scourge for the desert SW where I lived... Not that it is anywhere near as tough to kill but it is prevalent and takes over things choking the life out of native plants in that area.  Plus, it is harder to see snakes when they are in it...as if their camo doesn't work well enough already.

"The Goathead is an Flowering Annual.[/size]Many pinnately compound leaflets per leaf. Small yellow flowers with five petals. The seeds are very trecherous, and cause the barefoot gardener a great deal of agony. The shoed gardener can't escape the tribulation either, for these spikey burrs stick in bunches to your shoes, and you can walk on them for miles without destroying the seeds. Then they fall off of your shoes when you take them off in your house providing fun for the whole family. This irritating seed is also famous for popping bike tires. In some places it is known as the Caltrop, which is a four-spiked weapon, placed on the ground to stop people, and wheeled vehicles.=================================== Medicial: Purported to increase hormone levels and libido. ===================================Kingdom: Plantae Division: Magnoliophyta Class: Magnoliopsida Order: Zygophyllales Family: Zygophyllaceae Genus: Tribulus Species: T. terrestris Binomial nameTribulus terrestrisThis pest causes problems by:Wounding Gardeners. It attacks the gardeners foot. It is one of the worst weeds that I encounter. These irritate for years, as some of them that I pull out of my feet are years old.How to get rid of it:Get some gloves and pull them up as soon as you identify them. Their taproot is easy to rip out.

I understand that sometimes companies have lemons, but I can guarantee you that your experience is not representative of Honda's mowers. Almost everyone who uses them will agree that they are arguably the best in the industry. They last 20+ years. My father stated he wouldn't buy anything else.
