Very nice work, Elcheapo, you really put that together quickly. The black and red works very well and the lettering on the tank is spot-on. Excellent.

Really Really like the bike, but I am confused about the seat :-\  It looks to me like just the foam still dirty from being worked on by a grease monkey.  Don't take this wrong, the bike kicks ass, I guess I just need to see a closup of the material used or maybe you just haven't had it covered yet ???  And about the engine,  will it really put out close to 100hp or was that a little bit of exageration?

My buddy is building a 550 and he really wants to pull as many ponies out as possible, so any info here would be great.

Fantastic work.  Looks great, love the shape of the seat and cowl, and of course the rims.

See Below

Just got the seat on it today. Real slick, looks like WWII Bomber Jacket material as well as the grips.

There is a slight exaggeration in the HP figures  ;D, but the math did work out to about there. No way to know with a dyno and my buddy just sold his so I think it may be sometime before we know for sure. Way powerful and extra nasty sounding.

Well, for me- the big question is- Does it make as much, or more power than a good running 750?  If the answer is an honest yes, that thing must really scoot.  Both me and my friend agree that if he can get the 550 engine to churn out hp in the same range as a 750 then it would be amazingly fun!

Also, did you do or have done the work yourself- or did you purchase the engine like it is?  Needing to know a price range and a good contact to by these performance parts- some place other than M3 racing (too darn pricey!).

the bottom ends stock will comforably handle about 110 hp. After that you have to sink some serious money in the lower end and other places to get the reliability back. So YES a 500/550/605 can run right with a 750. you can free 10-20 hp just balancing the motor. Loading up for the show now, I will let you guys know how it goes.

Cool bike mang. Hope all goes well at the show. Get some cool pics while you are out too. The shop as a backdrop wasn't all that flattering!  ;D

Okay, I can't take it anymore.  Everyone feel free to call me an #$%*, but a little bit of the brew has just given me the courage to post this, and I have no doubt that I will regret it in the morning, but.......

The motor and power issue is very important to me.  I'm sorry- most don't understand it and I have tried not to blow my horn too much, but.... I have raced, and built pro-level dirtbikes and quads, and I have a very deep understanding of the internal combustion engine and it's limitations.  I also am quite arrogant and will face-to-face call out anyone who is trying to bull #$%* me.  In this situation, I cannot talk face-to-face and therefore my smile cannot be seen- this is why I hesitate so much with this post.

I truly think your bike is great, Tom.  I just cannot take it when I think people are just throwing out numbers that they think match up.  Again, I'm a nice guy, it's just that- a lot of people have read what was written about the 110 hp and they will believe it with their whole heart and will tell others the same thing- and it gets more and more exagerrated.  I understand a little bit of streching, but come on now, 110hp?

Did you know that the CBR650RR only puts out 118hp?  Now your telling me that a VINTAGE 550 is capable of producing 110hp and still remain reliable?  Flat out, impossible- espesially if no work is done on the bottom end!

Personally, I think it would be absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to produce that horsepower from a cb550 without nitrous, and then it would need a rebuild after every 1/8th mile run.

I really enjoy your posts, and I know this is going to piss you off, but if you don't know what your talking about- don't post it.  Everyone feel free to hammer on me for picking on Elcheapo.  I know he is well liked, but even the best of us need to be put in check now and then.  If someone can prove to me that a cb550 is capable of pushing out more than even, say 80hp, with only top end mods and no nitrous, I will happily eat my words.  But until then, I guess I will be known as the #$%* bringing people down.  I am crossing fingers and praying that I will approach 100hp out of my 750F-2 after an 836 big bore with 12.5-1 pistons, mild porting, cam, and aftermarket carbs.  And now I here that a 550 can produce 110hp with the stock bottom end- I shouldn't have picked the fastes SOHC honda I guess, I should have picked a mild 550.

Sorry to sound like an ass, but I am mildly drunk and my panties are in a wad,
JP
