Action Fours Cam specifications
« on: June 27, 2013, 02:51:09 am »
I have an old document I got with my cam some years ago. I scanned it when I think  others might need the data about Action Fours cams. Cam installation guideline too.

One question: ???
Why so different lash (running clear)?
The actual profile must have that play to protect the valve train when the valve is moving upwards with an angry piston hunting it?
- Cooling factor, longer time in the valve seat?

Found it Pewe, thanks.

So do you suggest I set valve lash the same as the Action Four D Grind?

Thanks

Action Fours' cams were not terribly hard. This was good with the rockers in these bikes, but not necessarily good for long life. Their published comment (that I remember) about the extra clearance was about "...letting more oil flow under the rocker foot on the lee side of the lobes..." to help keep things lubed and cooled. This makes sense, although it also makes noise: Honda has always been big on trying to make the engines very quiet, sometimes even to their detriment.
See SOHC4shop@gmail.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

HM - what do you think of the Kenny Harmon D grind cam? I'm building a motor now with one and was curious what to set the valves at?  Cannot find info on this.
