My new PC is stranded in Youngstown, Il NOW WOBBLE-FREE
« on: July 13, 2013, 01:47:34 PM »
Received this email from the shipper that is bringing my 1998 Honda Pacific Coast from CO to my home in Gap, Pa :  "Larry, we are having some vehicle issues and currently have the bike in Youngstown IL. At this point it would be best if you simply re-list your item on uShip. Item located at a residence in the garage at  55 s main street youngstown IL. List it as pickup from this address to your desired delivery address. Sorry for the inconvenience and we will not be needing  any payment from you for our services. Best regards, Matt"

I bought the scooter on steroids off Ebay for 2500 then put it on Uship for bids.  Well , the first listing had only one bid and the bidder withdrew when the seller  refused to bring the bike almost 200 miles to suit the shippers convenience.    Second listing had only one bidder who withdrew for some unknown reason.  Third listing finally had a bidder($587 to ship from CO to Pa), which seemed reasonable to me.  The seller notified me when the bike left his residence(at least two weeks ago),  told me the shipper showed up with a big Dodge pick up, three tiedowns and no ramp ??? ???.   Anyhow, his truck has broken down and my bike is still 900 miles from its new home...Larry

Wow, that's not good. So, he (shipper) basically said come and get it or make other arrangements.

I have used U-Ship only once. Anything they can do? They won't let you out of a contract. What makes the shipper thinks he can?

Wow, what a bunch of dirty ba----ds. Would contact Uship and want to know where in IL this is at, this guy's house?
Is it stolen if they don't deliver per contract?
MoMo, I really hate to hear this crap has happened.

It took  awhile but I think I figured out how to contact Uship, I think internet businesses make it so damn difficult to contact them that you give up >:(

Is there anyone in the area of Youngstown, Il?  Thanks for your concern...Larry

They are about 3 hours SW of Chicago and west of Peoria.
Wonder how cheap Greyhound would be for getting there to ride it back?  Greyhound is not ideal, but isn't overly expensive the last time I used them after helping a friend move from central Ohio to western KY.

Yes, Greyhound there and ride bike home. Greyhound sucks with them kicking you off often if you are traveling at night.  Amtrak to Chicago from Philly, is that possible? Then Greyhound to Youngstown?

Shipper only gave me Youngstown, IL as an address.  When I mapquest it it comes up as Roseville--would you know if that is correct SB?  What is with the town?   Think the bike is safe?  Thanks...Larry

Actually got a very timely response from Uship, seems what I have to do is request a cancellation and my fees will be refunded or applied to a new listing, which should be less expensive as the bike is 1000 miles closer to home.  It has been a month since the Ebay auction ended ???. Oh well, it isn't as though I need a bike to ride, I do have three runners and 4 or 5 projects...Larry

Not the idea here. The shipper just said FY. Come get it. Bulls shid.

Amtrak is worst than a bus. When I would deadhead at work I rode a freight train versus Amtrak. We called it the welfare train at work.

I even have a lifetime pass and won't ride it.

Youngstown, OH is a mafia town and has a huge drug problem, Toledo is similiar although Toledo has cleaned up their downtown some.

DEFINITELY would be providing negative feedback on Uship and drop a review of this "company" on Angie's List.

Hoping you are able to find a shipper easier this time around...
I would want a comprehensive set of photos of the bike's condition to ensure there is no damage by the former "shipper". Hoping there are no issues.

I'm near Roseville Il. Not familiar with Youngstown. I'll look it up.

I'm the closest member. About 20 minutes away in Galesburg. I've seen the sign but don't remember being there. It must be just a wide spot in the road.  I'm retired except for my drag race team, got a truck and a motorcycle trailer if I can be of service shoot me a PM. Don R.

Sent a PM. Google shows a few houses, it's not even a real town. The address doesn't come up, I'd verify the location before proceeding. I'm sure I drove home from Macomb on that road before, I built a Burger King, a Hy Vee grocery store and a new city hall in Macomb so I looked for alternate routes home to make it less boring.

Thanks  for the offer Don.  I am really concerned about the bike, seems the "shipper" does not care much about completing the contract.  regards...Larry  pm sent

Playing the Devils advocate, I'm thinking photo documentation will be the first order of business. I wonder, is the odometer electronic? Do you suppose when his truck broke down,,, nah he wouldn't.

Youngstown, IL to Toledo, OH is just under 7 hours (450 miles) according to Google Maps. Whereas Gap to Toledo is a bit over 7 hours (480 miles)...about the half way mark.
FWIW...

I was thinking it is 12 hours to where my family is in pennsylvania but it's closer to 14 and then 40-50 more miles to Gap.

I am in Gap 17527 not the Wind Gap up the Delaware River, so if your family is 40 miles away is Hanover a good guess?...Larry

The Pacific Coast is safely tucked away in the SOHC Zone in my garage. We went to Youngstown, the back garage door was left open for us, it started and I rode it home. We couldn't find the windshield but it drove nice and  behaved well. MoMo's problem is now I kinda like it. LOL. just kidding, well no I really did like riding it. If I had the windshield I might ride it to pennsylvania. HA!.
