anyone ride bikes? Anyone have any spare parts? Looking for 7 speed freewheels. Campy or good shimano. I'd like to find another 13-26 or 13-24 or 25 (this is old school since most stuff is cassettes now a days or more than 7.

the only spare one I have is a 13-21 which is fine for flat land riding. The 26 is tough enough in the mountains on a 42 chain ring. I know the new deal is compact cranksets but I think I'll stick with my big chain rings long as I can peddle them.

I think I have an older 7 speed Shimano freewheel that came on a bike I bought quite a while ago. It's down at my sister's right now but I can check on it this coming weekend to confirm and take a couple pictures.

If it works for you I am happy to just send it to you for the shipping cost.

When I was rebuilding my beater bike - 197X Raleigh 10 speed -  I got my parts from http://sheldonbrown.com/harris/parts.html

but that was years ago.

Edit:   I wonder if it is the same store y2k recommended.

I think it is Prokop, I was just looking around their site and Sheldon Brown is mentioned quite often.

45 and no high wheel bikes. I was into restoring vintage bikes for about 10yrs. I got some prime parts and some very collectible bikes. Unfourtantley the market went to crap on them. Some of the schwinn krates have really lost value. The old balloon tire stuff is bouncing back.

The in thing aound here is balloon tire bikes converted to look like board track racers. some of them have the chinese 49cc engines. Some look cool but are next to impossible to ride any distance. Which brings the question, why?

Speaking of biking, I need to bike my age in August and a mile century in September, at least that's my goal.

I rode century exactly year ago, but slacked a bit since, gotta get back in shape.

I'm blessed to get to ride 18 miles round trip into work each day. Company I work for has a nice bike room with lockers and showers - Love it. I actually think bicycle riding skills translate very well to motorcycle riding. (thoughts?)

I like the idea of doing a ride that equals your age. try this... push ups or burpees to your age on your b-day. ah yah.

I rather think I can make 49 pushups, but I will try it first and brag about it later :)

When I worked at AOL, I would drive to Purcellville and bike to  Dulles office in the morning and back to Purcellville in the afternoon.   AOL had showers and gym and lockers, that was nice.
My current commute is less than two miles, I have to bike circles to get my daily dose.

Nice! I rode today as a matter of fact. I get to do a 32 mile RT to work and back with one long hill at the end.

I used to have all kinds of parts from the 70's, 80's and early 90's but I purged all the stuff I knew I will never use again. Gotta do that every decade or so.

I recently built a cruiser bike just for our annual Dead Baby Race here in Seattle. Awesome event. Motto: "Safety Third #$%*es". Everyone races (cruises) from a day-before-disclosed location in the city and rides to the  georgetown neighborhood for a huge party. Bands, Pig roasts, kegs of local brew, BMX jumping exebition. It's pretty cool. In fact it's tonight! First friday in August.

I'm guessing late 50's early 60's Schwinn Stingray. My neighbor has a bicycle junk yard in his back yard I just pieced it together.

middle weight is a relative term. This thing weighs as much as my downhill bike.

Stingray uses 20 inch wheels.
Middleweight means narrower fenders and frame, if you put balloon tires on,you cant fit the big wide fenders

I don't think they had 20" wheels back in the 50's but they had Stingrays. There is a local bar around here that has the same bike hanging from the ceiling that has stingray embedded written on the chainguard. that's why i believe it is one. i could be wrong.

thanks Banker, send me a pic and count the big gear. My old school derailleur can't handle bigger than a 26 tooth as far as I know, I've not tried one bigger but it's a short cage. 13-26 seems to suit me fine.

Definitely a 7 speed cartridge. I removed it a couple weeks ago to swipe a couple spokes I needed for another wheel. I didn't count the big gear, but I don't think it is more than 26. I will ask my sister's fiance to count it for me tonight.
