Me & my wife riding the Tail of the Dragon earlier this summer on our 1983 GL1100.

This past weekend riding the dirt roads of Southern Vermont on the VStrom

On Somerset Road:

Scenic views were few in among the trees

Then it was down the Kelly Sand Rd/Sratton-Arlington Road (paved at the lower end and some great curves) to Stratton before heading over more dirt (West Jamaica Road) to Jamaica, VT for lunch at the Farmers Market - pulled pork sandwhich accompanied

After lunch we decided to get to Windham via the Turkey Mountain Rd

Impassable by VStrom or Versys!

The road back down

The paved road to Windam (Windam Hill Road) is very good for street bikes and would like to go back with the K2. The road to Grafton is dirt and equally fun! Then it got even better as the road to Brookline, VT and then the Putney Mountain Road were both good challenges

Current bikes
1. CB750K4: Long distance bike, 17 countries and counting...2001 - Trans-USA-Mexico, 2003 - European Tour, 2004 - SOHC Easy Rider Trip , 2008 - Adirondack Tour 2-up , 2013 - Tail of the Dragon Tour , 2017: 836 kit install and bottom end rebuild. Great pics Tug, did you put the ducktail on your 'Wang? Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Here is my '75 Kaw Z1 that I am currently restoring....

My '73 Yam RD350 that I bought last year.  All original, 11K miles and it is a screamer! Used it for my pit bike at the new F1 race track in Austin...

Here is my '72 Suzi TS250.  Had a similar one when I was a kid and bought this on on ebay a few years back. Haven't ridden it in awhile, need to pull it out of the batcave...

I like it too, Larry. But, it's not in excellent condition and not stock, so it will go one day. Currently building the rear wheel, the 16" Harley wheel is gone and will be replaced with an 18" DID with SS spokes, Avon Roadrider to match the new front. When this is on, the stock type exhaust will be next.
No longer available from Kaw, but is from Z1 Enterprizes for $1300+.  Supposedly made in Japan from the same tooling as the originals were.

I was always stressing out worrying about the injection pump failing, despite reading how reliable they are.
It was fun, but I didn't love it like I do my CB400F, and rode it a lot less.

I used the money from sale of it and my '75 CB360 (which also got largely ignored due to my CB400F as well) to fund the purchase of my VFR400R, which I LOVE to ride.

Can understand that.  The RD loves to accelerate to high RPM, sometimes I think it's gonna blow, but it just  keeps on going.  It's just a toy I ride around town, not a bike I would ever consider taking an out of town trip on.

I spent much of the 1970's riding on the back of my mate Hughie Bowden's purple R5 (model before the RD350, but looked pretty much identical) and we often saw over 100 MPH two up. Sadly Hughie's been dead many years now, but whenever I see one of those wicked little smokers I'm reminded of my misspent youth....... ;D

Oh, and I love the TS250 too, I had a 185 and a 250 and they were both great bikes. That one's a gem! Cheers, Terry. ;D

I think the other issue was a matter of chassis and brakes.     The RD350 likes to be ridden hard and fast.     I've got modern bikes for that.    I ride my vintage bikes are a little easier (but not Harley-poser slow) pace than say, my VFR750. or VFR400R.

I wish I had a picture of the YR2 (a predicessor to the R5) we had when I was in high school. My dad picked it up around 1981 or so from a Yamaha dealer near where my sister lives now (and where I work on my various vehicles) that is still in business. I think it was just sitting in there storage lot next to the building. We tried and tried but could never get the carburation quite right (he swears it was a C model, but that was a scrambler exhaust and we had a regular road exhaust, maybe that's why we couldn't sort it, we were referencing the wrong jetting).

Still, it did run and was complete, so I rode it anyway. No power at all down low, but around 3k or so it was like someone lit off a rocket booster. It had that great 2-stroke metallic scream and left a trail of blue smoke in its wake..

Dad painted it is lima bean green with cream accents. I'm sure it seemed stylish at the time. He gave it to me, then later traded me the R69S he had messed up for it back.

Nice! I want a Harley to replace my Triumph Rocket III when I sell it back to my brother. I was keen on a Ducati 916 until I discovered that you need to replace the cam belts (750 bucks) every 6 months. What a joke.............. ;D

Here are a few pics of my RR from this year. I drive down to the Alps and Dolomites at least twice a month (perhaps a little less in the winter when many passes are closed). Last week, I traveled five countries in five days (Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Slovenia). So, I have hundreds of pics. I love Europe and don't want to leave. The Alps are motorcycle heaven. In Tyrol, everywhere you look you see signs saying "Bikers are Welcome!" It's awesome--and so are the roads. :D
