New forum member, long-time SOHC owner/rider.
« on: November 16, 2013, 12:03:33 PM »
Hello,

Like the title says, I'm new to this forum, but I've owned my 1978 CB750K since 1982. I traded a '78 CB550K for it and was glad I did. I only owned the 550 for about 4 months prior to trading. The 750 was my daily rider throughout college and probably well into the 1990's. Then, children arrived, etc. and motorcycle riding slowed to a near dead stop. The entire time, though, the bike has been garaged, covered, periodically cleaned, started, etc. I've had many bikes since I first bought the 750 (and still have a few), but this was my first "cool" motorcycle, and will be keeping it, "forever".....
I'm starting to put together parts, pieces, information, etc. to do a full restoration of the 750, that's how I came across this site. The biggest hurdle will be re-building the carbs, as they need lots of work. (I've already downloaded the carb manual). I am working on another bike at the moment, and when it's finished, the Honda is up next.
I plan on doing alot of reading, here, to see what others have done and hopefully learn alot before tackling the project.

Thanks for the pics. Good looking and clean K8. How many miles she got? Quite a few members here with  750 K7 and 8's. As good as shape the bike looks it seems like the original pipes should still be on it. What type of after market pipe is that and did you choose to remove the original pipes by choice or had they rotted out?

It's got a little over 21,000 actual miles on it. I bought it at 7,000 miles. I wish I had the original pipes.... these were on it, when I purchased it. They look to be MAC 4 into 2's. They are in pretty good shape, except where the battery overflow leaked acid onto them on a long, hot weather trip.... The rest is all original, except for wear items. The luggage rack came from my 550K that I traded in. The seat does have one small split in the heat weld towards the back, I'm not sure how to repair it. The pics show alot of dust, kind of embarrassed to post them, at first.

Just what I talked about in the OP, carbs, maybe clean-up, polish, etc. I'd like to have a set of original pipes, but that will be a long-shot. Thanks for the kind words.

Yeah good looking bike! I think k-7-8 re pop pipes are available on e-bay and a few places! Id advise purchasing a set of 4 before they're gone! If it sets your project back a couple years so be it! That bikes worth it and when the exhausts have gone (unobtanium and your bikes running great) they may never show back up!
