I'll look forward to watching him. Mountain track or international?

Bill, make your reservations at the Motel 6!! Team Old Scrambler will be there. Joe, you?

We need Dennis' input on this BUT I will say you can enter the 750 class. IF you get the record you either tear it down for inspection or bug out and not be in the books....

Bill,

Out of the 3 750's I saw the speeds were 125, 120 and 88. Surely SamAuto can smoke those! A tricked out DOHC with a turbo? only did 120 or so. That'd warm you up for bigger things  :D

I like the idea of riding Joe's bike! Lots more $ involved taking Samauto, but if it happens and goes well, then who knows 2015 maybe! ;D

Sam's bike is 915 cc....

Yes it is ON THE INSIDE. On the outside it is 736.  ;)  IF you were to achieve a record then it would be torn down IF you want in the books BUT you don't HAVE to tear it down. It costs considerably more to be on the Salt for a record than run what you brung.

Jon, you're the numbers man. What do you think SamAuto could have the potential to top out at? At least we wouldn't have to deal with that damn brake!  ;) ;D ::)

The low cost improvements needed would include swapping back in the -75 cam, a stock torque converter, and add a quarter fairing. Gearing would need to be figured out using Quarter Jr. software. Given time, a tighter torque converter and an airbox should help find a few more mph.
Just guessing today at around 138 mph (no fairing) and around 147 mph with a quarter fairing. The track is 4,219 ft above sea level. If I remember right, Sam claims that he's already seen 130 with the current gearing on the dragstrip.... (and lived to tell about it)  ;)

Bill..........Old Scrambler here..........Bonneville with you and SamAuto would be GREAT ;D ;D ;D.  Easiest way to run is RWYB with Joe.  2010 or newer Snell sticker in your helmet, gauntlet gloves, non-vented leathers and riding boots.........your in 8) 8)

Put a 120/90 or taller 18-inch or 19-inch tire on the rear. Biggest countershaft sprocket and smallest rear sprocket. Recommend 520 chain.  Smaller jets (several sizes) for altitude and bring an airbox to try. Remove the tail-light and bring some shocks.  http://www.rbracing-rsr.com/gearspeed.html  Somewhat reliable to calculate speed at given rpms.........consider the jweeks advice on the torque converter.

Treat the first half-mile as a Sunday ride up to 120-mph or so....NO TIRE SLIPPAGE.......then it gets serious with best rider-tuck and watch for the flags at the end of the timed mile. I figure you should be going 150-ish if motor and gearing are good. Slowly back-off the throttle and ease your tuck to wind-brake. You should not need to use the brakes until back at the pits.  You may want to remove the front brakes and bring a seat that allows you to slide back and rest your helmet on the tank.  A set of low-bars or clip-ons would also help.

On the AMA web-site look for the supplemental racing rules. If you want to enter a class for a record, I suggest 1000cc Modified Classic Gas..............with any kind of fairing or tilted headlamp it would be 1000cc Modified Partial Streamliner Classic Gas.  You have to buy the gas on-site and have the tank sealed. Any other gas puts you in the fuel category.

We party some...........but get up at 5:30 for breakfast and 20-minute drive to the pits......10 minutes paved & 10 minutes on the salt. First runs are at 7:AM when the temps are cool.  You, Joe and my Tiger Cub would be running the basic short-course on Sunday and Monday. Start at the 1-mile. I plan to move to the 0-start with my CB750 build in the 750cc Modified Classic Gas.

Hell yeah brother!! Sam get yer OLD ass over here! I'm free from 8/23-24 to 9/1. Dennis is heading home 8/28. He's running the Triumph first few days then the 750 on Tue/Wed? and then heading home Th 8/28. The Bonneville GP is 8/30-8/31 on the way back unless you wanted to take care of your other business in Colorado or head south to AZ perhaps? Other options too  ;)

Who else is in???? Mike? Keith?

Dennis, I'd venture to say Bill's 'partying on the salt" is more about racing vs partying per se  ;) ;D Bill is serious when it gets time to race  ;) I've been with him also when it's time to put on the race face.

Sams Bonneville ride should he decide to come..

Sam vs Bill...who can make the F4 go faster?Stay tuned..lol

Seriously tho...you guys are welcome to ride it i could care less,i won it on Ebay for 620$...i have a cb360 to ride..ha ha...i bought that CBR just to run the snot out of at Bonneville...anyone else who wants to take a spin, you just show up and pay for your ticket..and fuel..stop at Wallmart and buy some of those sticky sheets of numbers too,we will be doing some swapping,no biggie..

Besides, who knows what else i will find to drag out there..i have a yard full of salvaged sportbikes i've been buying thru the winter..maybe that 900RR i got could go..minus fairings(smashed to kingdom come)..

Nice video...............shows the Sunday Drive part of the run..............more or less a 'rookie run'..........Poor Rider technique, lacks tuck.  It helps to have a helmet with a racer's view of the track when tucked.  After a few runs you tend to get lower and just watch the flags..........or pick a track in the salt and stick to it.  Just be sure you don't follow the rider that hit the flag ;D ;D ;D ;D
