Picked up a set of mikuni's, now what?
« on: July 13, 2016, 03:26:27 PM »
I guy I work with gave me this set of mikuni's the other day, he used to do some drag racing back in the 80's/90's and claims to have used these carbs on a Suzuki GS750 he had, they've been setting on a shelf collecting dust ever since and being he knows I'm into bikes decided to just give then to me to play around with but I'll be damned if I know what to do with them. They say 33A 14 on the side and as far as I can tell they're 33mm smooth bores that originally may have come off a GS or maybe KZ 1000. Will these even remotely work on a cb750? Messing around with something that isn't broke is what I do sometimes but are these carbs worth the effort?

Well, as is the spacing won't match. If your engine is anything less then +-900cc, they are on the large size.

Besides that, nice gift!

I've heard of members using Mikuni RS34s on 836cc and 915cc CB750 builds with success.  I am not sure if the 33As you picked up can be re-racked to fit the spacing of the CB750 head and, if so, which carburetor manifolds would work best.

Yeah I kind of figured they'd be a bit too big on my stock F2. :o I may go with an 836 kit some day but not any time soon but I imagine even then it would still take some serious cyl head porting to go along with it for the carbs to work decent. Oh well I'll probably just clean them up and put them on my shelf and wait for something I can use them on to come my way.

Too big, even for an 836. The Mikuni's Don mentioned are far superior to the old smoothbores like yours {and mine}and have far more adjustability   Sudco makes {or used to make} manifolds to make these suit our bikes but you'd want a fire breathing monster to use those on a 750.... Far better suited to a hotted up 1000cc Kawasaki or GS1000 Suzuki... :D

If you had a 4 banger car...those would probably work on something like a bmw 2002 or alpha romeo.

Mikuni TMR32 work really good with a fantastic response from low and all way up to full on my CB750 K6
When a colleague describes his R1 2009 in race mode I think about my bike. It need care when taking off when full  is less than 1/4 turn of the grip.
I jetted them last year for 836, cam and ported K-head with 34mm inlet valves.
