I had the same issue on a Nighthawk just the other day. Unbolted the ignition and took it the hardware store. 10 minutes and $10 later I had a key.

For prices that vary between about $10 and $25 you can by a new ignition lock and two keys on E-bay for just about any model Honda.  Most of them are priced right at $20 - made in some south Asian hell-hole by dam near slave-labor no doubt, but then what is not these days?

Also consider www.hondakeys.com. All you will need it the number off the the lock. May not have them, but most of the time he seems to come through.

Your better off finding the numbers for the locks. You can take the seat lock apart and you will find the number there. If your lucky and the ignition is original, one key ordered from the places mentioned ealier will fit perfect. All locks, seat, steering and ignition. Should be T#### number. I bought my key from the place on EBAY it's nice to have an OEM key. I wonder about those after market ignition quality.

I don't hear anything good about the EMGO ign sw!

Try to (very carefully) refurbish your orig Honda ign sw.

I see that www.CB750supply.com has a complete ignition switch for my F1 much cheaper ($35 vs. $200+) than those from Honda.

1. Does anyone know if they sell the EMGO switch that some on here have been cursing?
2. Anyone have experience with this ignition switch from C750supply.com?

Thanks,
Holubs

I know nothing!

That's likely too high a price for an EMGO. - However, others will know much more about it that I.

IMHO any supplier should make it very clear as to who mfg'd the sw, considering EMGO's sw reputation! I hate surprises!

My problem is that my barn find F1 had the insides of the lock rusted to where the key wouldn't turn, like everything else on the bike.  I was able to take the switch mechanism apart part way, but could not get all of the rust cleaned out.  My switch is working, but turning the key gets very stiff and the key needs to get "jiggled" until it makes contact sometimes.

I hate the thoughts of paying over $200 for an OEM switch, if the other will work.

Just buy a new ignition and seat lock from eBay or a forum member. I got 'em last month for $30.

At the moment, there's a bunch of EMGO ign sw's on ebay @$20.99 + $5.35 S&H.

Didn't look too long but the only orig, OEM ign sw's I saw were USED - may be good & may be bad [?]. These were priced much higher.

Evidently, they are still avail from some Honda dealers - likely expensive.

Does that statement mean that you haven't heard it actually run yet?  If yes, I stand by my earlier reply; the ignition comes off pretty easily so perhaps forgoing the oem key at the moment and having a quick key cut at the local hardware store for $10 is the most practicable means of hearing the bike run to see what you have.  The PO of the Nighthawk I just bought on Thursday couldnt find the key so I had to buy the bike on faith that I could get it started after a 7 year hibernation. 1 day of work and 1 key later, it did run.

I too have had no problems with the emgo but I prefer stock if I can. I have ordered 4-5 keys by number off of ebay and they work fine. Buy one by number then take it to the hardware store and they can duplicate it for a couple of bucks. Other wise stock ignitions and seat locks come up all the time on Ebay. IF yours is corroded and messed up I would go for another used one or an emgo. The only Emgo I have had fail was my fault, I broke a piece off  while doing something else unrelated to the switch.
Good luck either way!

'Glad to learn of your good experience with an EMGO ign sw (there must be others or they couldn't sell 'em). Til yours, all the posts I've seen were not good ( bad news travels faster than good?).

'Makes me feel better about the new EMGO I'm running. I have the orig OEM 1977 sw ready to go back on. 'Just needed a good cleaning and lube - like new inside. The high here will be 25 today so there's no rush. Canadian Clipper! I hate winter!

I will probably try one of the EMGO ignitions on my F1, sounds like a couple of people here have had decent luck with them.

I guess it's something about paying less for the whole ignition switch than the keys that makes me leary. I've seen Emgos on Ebay for $15 delivered. keys from Honda or a locksmith will cost more. You get what you pay for.

Oh, and my buddy has had an Emgo for two years in his 550 and it's outside most of the time.
