What Was your First Car??
« on: March 11, 2014, 10:30:12 AM »
How about it?

Mine was a '59 Rambler American.
So slow off the line a semi could take me.
Fold down front seat for unauthorized activities.
The floor pan rotted out, so I ripped off a speed limit sign and stuck it under the floor mat.
Fuel efficient, though gas was 18 cents per gallon, it really didn't matter.
This is not the actual car in the photo, it's a semi-restored example.

'71 Fiat Spider 124.
Saved my money from working and HS graduation gifts. It was all mine! I could take the top down at a stop light. Wooden dash, wiring that looked like multi-colored spaghetti. It had a very optimistic 140 mph speedometer, which was very, very optimistic!
Looked similar to this, but mine had wire wheels.

A 1969 Ford XL 500, fastback, 390 CI engine......

The photo is not my car, but it is a fair representation of it's condition and color... lol! Paid $100.00, drove it for 3 years in HS and sold it to the scrap yard for $60.00..... lot's of fun in that car, BIG back seat.  ;D

A 1967 Ford Cortina 1500 GT.

The GT models were considered California smog exempt because they came with factory headers.

Sure wish I still had it, they have a very strong following and fetch a pretty penny now.

1966 VW Beetle, paid 50.00 bucks for it from my Uncle Bill when I was 15. Drove it for 2 years and bought a 71 Impala Sport Coupe with a 400 small block in it. Talk about going from a gocart to a car. What a difference!!  :o

A 69 Boss 302 Mustang. It was rusted pretty bad and the original Boss 302 engine was long gone but the 4V 351 Cleveland that was in it's place still ran sweet.

1955 Ford. 100K miles on the clutch, straight six and three speed on the column. This one is restored, mine was always on life support. It is the same two tone colors.
I have had nicer and better cars, but I loved her dearly. You never forget your first.

Mine was a twin to this one. Contrary to belief, Pontiacs really DID make power.
Being from Missouri, the "show me" state, there were times when it was necessary. ;)
A bit of trivia: why do half or more of the cars at the track have tail light/brake lites out? A guy could make out like a bandit selling bulbs all night long.  end hijack :-X

I had a 51 GMC with the 6, and did the same thing, but that was in 1975. My first car was a 1960 Jag 3.8 mk2 that I bought for $400. In 1970 or 71. It never made it off the driveway.

1970 Plymouth Barracuda, bought it from a family friend for $100.  It had a 318 with a bad tranny and was as filthy as could be.
Fixed trans and painted it but still looked nowhere as good as this one.

'66 Chevy Biscayne - full of rust and had been used to drag a screen around the high school baseball field by the coach (my Uncle).  He gave it to me when I was 14.  Never did get all the dust out of it.  Body was in bad shape but the 283 and 3 speed on the column never gave any trouble.
