74 cb750 project infected
« on: March 27, 2014, 01:46:44 PM »
Hi all   new here but been looking at this forum for a bit now lots of great info.  I just picked up a 74 cb750 for 200 with lots of spare parts the guy before me got.  Im abot to strip the bike down this weekend to take it to a guy thats gonna hard tail it for me.  I have no welding skills so it makes it easier.  Ill have pics this weekend while im striping it.  Im not gonna use most of the parts that are curently on the bike or the spare parts so if anyone is looking for anything let me know.  My main question at the moment is since the motor is coming outfor about 2-3 weeks while the frame Iis out any sugjestions on how to paint the motor.  Ie should I take it all apart or just leave it together,  what type and or brand paint should I used.  Im probably painting most of the motor a high gloss black if possible and paint the cylinders and covers red.  I have 3 differnt exhaust systems for it. And I have one ive piced out so those 3 are up for sale if any1 wants them like I said ill have some pics tomorrow.

The bike has been sittin for about a year n a half I was gonna try to get it running after it got painted.  It moves freely with the kick start n it has good compression I believe.  I havent tested it yet.  If I do pull it apart is there anything I should look for inside thst means the motor is complete trash

I would try to get it running and see what you have ,it may be a perfectly good engine.it would be a shame to get it all pretty then have to take it apart.if it runs with no smoke and no major leaks it should last awhile.gotta tune them up though.bill

I agree with Bill. Get it running first.
