Howdy!
« on: September 14, 2006, 03:16:02 PM »
Been lurking for a month or so... learning as much as I could while waiting to get my FIRST EVER motorcycle.   :o  I know, I'm coming to the game late at my ripe old age of 37.   ;)

Live and work in Norman, Oklahoma (home to the Sooners!) with a wife and two kids.

Picked up my 1978 CB750 K (nicknamed Kate - I mean, how can you NOT call a K8 - "Kate" ??? ) almost two weeks ago.  First thing to go?  The King/Queen seat.  Will slowly (slow like molasses in February) convert to some semblance of a Cafe Racer.  Here's my 5 year-old son on the current (temporary) seat - a stadium cushion.

There!  Now that I've introduced myself, I'm gonna go post a question...

 ;D

Welcome. The K8 fraternity is getting stronger ;D

Very cool to see you remove the aforementioned seat.
What are your plans for the seat? Solo cafe?  or will you want to double up with the kids or wife from time to time?

WAAAYY  too new to this to even THINK about letting someone else on the bike.  So... going to take the old seatpan and chop/fabricate my own version of the infamous Guilliardo seat.

As I see it, it's less typical than the glass back, and "just in case" I ever see Daisy Duke's broken-down Jeep on the side of the road, she can still squeeeze onto the back seat.

 ;D ;D ;D

Bought the bike off a friend who converts these into cafe racers.  He had already replaced the handlebars when I said STOP!  I don't wanna pay YOU to do it!  So, he made sure it ran well, and the rest of the cosmetics are up to me.

So... here's a picture you never thought you'd see.  A bike with clubman handlebars and a King/Queen seat.    :o

Sorry for the confusion.  That's what I get for trusting my memory.  :-[

It's actually Giuliari.  ProTeal has one on his bike.  I've seen a few others here also.  They go for something like $300 on eBay IF you can find one.

Here are some pictures of one version (I think there are three for the CB750) from someone else on the forum (sorry - don't remember who).  Then, a couple shots of them on bikes.  Should give you a pretty good idea what I'm going for.

LOL

Uhh... yes.  Yes it is.     :D :D :D

In the seats defense - this bikes previous life was as a tour-er.  Big seat, Luggage (or whatever you call the hard cases), etc.

Also, in this picture, that seat is just sitting on top of the stadium cushion.  Already had zip-tied it on there, when I realized I didn't have a "before" picture.  So, I threw it on and snapped this photo.  Pretty sure the front originally fit up against the tank much (well, a little) better.

Because I'm such a cheap bastage, I'm going to try (key word is try) to re-use this seat pan.  I expect I'll have to cut some off the sides, and would also like to create a cavity in the back.  I'll take pictures of the progress.  Who knows.  If it works, maybe we can finally rescue all those $5 eBay King/Queen seats from the trash heap.  Then again, looking back at that picture, maybe they deserve the trash heap.  ;D
