Possible - 72CB350 buy??? - UPDATE - GOT IT -
« on: April 13, 2014, 05:05:32 AM »
Been thinking about doing a 350 for a change of pace. Local 1972 CB350 with 6,500 miles 2nd owner. The guy bought it in 2005 and had local Honda shop tune it. He then parked it 3 years ago inside and moved out of state. Says everything was working when parked and it ran perfect. New tires 3 years ago. Seat is perfect. Still has the OEM exhaust with no holes, but the chrome was bad so he replaced the exhaust. Says all chrome is very good with no dents and good shine. Note the dent in the front of the right fork down tube, right ear and maybe a dimple on right side of tank. Says paint very good, tabs good on side covers and all electrics work. Has tool kit and 2 keys. Not sure about manual under seat. I will be checking it out next weekend. He is asking $2,000 OBO and says he will come down to $1,700 which I think is still high. Would be more comfortable between $1,000 - $1,500 depending on what I find in person....your thoughts???

His asking price does sound a little high given the cosmetic condition with the dents etc up here in the rust belt.

I always like the CB 350. Almost got one in 1973 the year I got my driver lic. But I heard Honda was coming out with a completely new bike in 1974 and it was going to be better, bigger, and faster, and also have a 6 speed trans. So I purchased the first one the local dealer got in. No more clues, can you guess? I think you had one to a few years back. Haha!

Yeah Johnie I would say he's toward the high end also. But all these old Honda's are starting to demand more money. $800 to $1250 looks a lot better IMO.  Here is a ebay listing for a 1972. Buy it now $ 3 grand. Don't think he will get that though ???

Hall you have to be talking the 360 :)  Thanks for the feedback....I will post up more pics once I see it. So far at the $2,000 mark I am the only caller. I think he is way out of line based on the damage I see.

I completely agree w/ dhall57 about the price being too high;I own a gold CB350K4.
The guy put a seat on it off of a CL350 model(too long... it covers the tank up a little)and the pipes are aftermarket;if you do get it for $800-1000 I have a couple parts if you need them.

Most of the ones I have been seeing around here in Michigan including the scramblers have been in the $600.00 to $1000.00. A couple in the $600.00 range seemed to sell very quickly.

My first bike was a 350 and i loved it to death but you have to look at em like this, its a 350 not a 750,its akin to a base camaro versus a z28,that 350 imo is not worth more than a grand

Might check for a broken steering stop on the right side too. Still a cool bike tho. Don't know what it's worth, but my '72 scrambler was $779.00 new in Sept. of '72. I miss the old days :'(  ;)

I bought a '72 CB350 in August of 1972 and kept it for ten months. Mine *really* vibrated, and no, the motor mounts were not loose.

All excellent points guys. I am looking at it on Friday morning and will get better pics and a better look at it. Not sure what I would do with it, just always wanted a 350. When I was riding a couple CM400's I restored I could not wait to get home and get on a 750. I would really like to find one of those 68 - 70 CB350's.

Here is a 1970 CB350. One of the earlier years that you said you really would like to have.

Hall - I did go check the that CB350 out Friday. After giving it a good look over and finding other issues I decided to pass. Things like broke steering stop, dented tank, brake pedal bent, ears bent, and no OEM mufflers he thought he had on a shelf. Way over priced at $1700. Thanks for the listing on the 70 - I will check it out.

I'm surprised w/ all those issues the guy didn't budge? on the price;did he think he had a Vintage MV Augusta for God's sake ?

His Mom showed me the bike so I could not talk to him direct. He lives in an area with no Internet. I sent him a text message telling him with what I would need to put into it cost would be to high. I will see if he responds.

Even that seems high...keeping in mind she is not as collectable as the 750. I do not plan to make an offer.

Price seems high like everyone has said,  here in Maryland that would have been sold by now though.  I would wait till you could find one for say 500-800$ and put some cash into it, or wait and find a 350F,  thats one of my bikes, but i recently rode the twin version and was really surprised at the difference in power and handling!

I feel like due to the demand for smaller bikes and the fact they're cheap on insurance it makes people think they can get a lot for a 350T.

I know someone who paid 3000 CAD for on with the motor not even in the frame. Crazy talk.

Myself I had to talk the PO down from 1000 CAD for my 350 and it had many issues. One being the varnish in the carbs looked like brown mud.

Thanks, it's a keeper for sure.  Got a heck of a deal on it too.  The tin where already painted but the bike was disassembled, a basket case if you will.  Got 2 bikes, Tires, lots NOS parts and other goodies.  3-4 weeks later I has riding and smiling.

Update 4-26: if you recall I passed on this bike 2 weeks ago as he was at $2K and said bottom was $1700. I see he has relisted it at $1500 OBO. Plan to give him a call today and see if he would take $1K cash. Bike is only 20 minutes from my house compared to 5 hours on that overpiced 1970 that I posted this past week.
These are my notes from 2 weeks ago - 6,531 miles - build 10/71 -
broken steering stop on left, small dent in right side tank, carbs rebuilt 2005, tank clean, OEM owners manual under seat, no tool kit, no rust on rims, no rust or dents on fenders, both side covers crack free all tabs in place, under seat very clean, seat & pan very good, high beam indicator missing from bucket, brake pedal bent, both ears bent and one fork cover bent. Here are some pics I took a couple weeks ago...So what is your take now guys???
