Barber 2014
« on: July 14, 2014, 09:20:26 AM »
I am planning to ride to Barber this October, but since it is the very first time I am bit lost on tickets and camping.  What ticket do you usually get, is the Ace Corner worth it?  I would like to see the museum, watch some races...

I will be getting there Friday night, leaving Sunday morning, at least that's the plan.

Primitive camping is fine with me, only B and D available now - is one better than the other?

And who is coming?

Never camped but have been twice. If your not into the cafe craze then I wouldnt buy the ace corner ticket. The museum is a separate fee but well worth it and a must see. The pit/garage area is free to get in and a pretty cool place to hang out and watch the races

I think we were wanting c but not sure if we got them yet.  I think D is a long narrow strip above the Pits, not as nice as C.    I never did Ace Corner, I think you can always buy in to that later.

Hilltop motorhome D is where we were last year, above the paddocks. It was crowded and though there is a bit of room of the road it is sloped uphill all the way so most people park within 50' of the road.

It's official, we're in B and the rest of our party got C. I guess we park at B and hang out at C.

Probably be there Friday or late Thursday.

I'm in!  I camped in each lot (B, C, and D) over the last three years.  Given a choice, I'd probably take C.  Two years ago, I was in C and parked right at the very front.  They had fireworks that year and we had the perfect seats although we did have to hear everyone riding by at night and morning.  Parking and camping can only be described as "mayhem" if you don't get there early.  I've always gotten there late because of work and I've always had to squeeze in someplace.  This year I bought a motorhome spot in C so we'll see what happens.

A large contingent of Nashville bikers, including a few SOHC4 members are setting-up camp in Lot C again this year..... most of us ride down with camping gear ( 200 + miles ) and arrive Thurs. afternoon...it gets rowdy    ;D ;)
The plan again this year will be to meet-up each day at 6 pm at the Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club ( VJMC ) area with other SOHC members and ride out to eat somewhere. So, if your at Barber, this is the meeting spot.... see you there  :)

I  am in, just booked B camping spot.  700 miles or so, not sure when and what day  I get there.

Wife told me there is no way I ride on my old seat;  told her my ass already voted that option out  ;D

I've always gotten there late because of work and I've always had to squeeze in someplace.  This year I bought a motorhome spot in C so we'll see what happens.

The first year we went was '07 and I think a no camp paved lot is where we 'squeezed in' near   upper D lot. It was pretty sparse that year, and really sparse after dark so we just stayed and camped there.   No one chased us off, and I'm pretty sure we didn't have camp passes. Last year we pulled in the paved area with 'D' passes while we found out party and the next day they  were quick to let us know they wanted us to move. Seems like they even brought some kind of a squad car SUV or two to let us know we shouldn't be there.

Back in the 'old days' it was easier to just squeeze in somewhere.

Two years ago the po po shut down some slow races we were watching. Things got a bit tense and I got the feeling that a couple of the ?deputies? were getting kind of antsy to thump someones head for not snapping to and heeding the orders. The charm has faded for me after last year. I am not going this year but would love to hear how everyones time is this year. I might go back next year...

An interesting thing happened with my friend. He found a holster just left on the hill. Not sure what the concealed carry laws are in Alabama, but he picked it up and gave it to the gate keeper at area C, and I think it was claimed at lost and found. Weird Deal!

Weird indeed. From the rules there is no carry at the campground.

Back in the 'old days' it was easier to just squeeze in somewhere.

When I got there last year, I ended up driving all the way at the end of the D lot and had no spot to park.  There was a guy standing there at a gate that said the area past the gate was the paddock for the MX guys and I couldn't go in there.  I told him I had a camping pass and no spot to camp.  He told me to circle around and if I couldn't find anything to come back and he'd ask someone to let me in that area.  I ended up parking right at the front of lot D by a motorhome and across from the port-a-johns.  There was a small patch of land up there too by the entrance they had roped off but eventually let folks park in there.

Yeah Im coming! My ticket is in B. Just got it a couple nights ago! Ill be in Thursday evening from the Savanah Ga area! Riding alone so far.
Im riding my 750! Going to be a long ride but solo I can ride my own pace! Probably ride interstate to south of Atlanta an cut under and over on back roads.

I think I'll be busy going for a ride.

Good luck!

We were on a mission to go further east through Atlanta last year and it seemed like over 5 hours to the outskirts of Atlanta.
