A few weeks ago I bought my very first cell phone figuring it would help with meeting folks on the relay rally.  Just a cheap pay as you go model that served its purpose well, but now that is over for this year, I had little use for it.  So saturday night, after several tall Mint Juleps, I greatly enjoyed chucking it into the middle of a busy road and watching it die.

Love it... ;D

Damn good fun ! My attempt was to stick a misbehaving phone to the rail of the nearby mainline train track with lots of duct tape - just to see how many wheels got the sucker. There was nothing bigger than a full stop left. Not even the warning sign telling me not to put the battery in the bin !

I like to kill offending technology. (Except for motorbikes of course).

A polite horn tap is certainly warranted. Then, when they rush through the intersection without looking due to their embarrassment, and smash headlong into the Dump truck, I just smile and tank the powers that be for fate.  ;)

Of course, this only happens after they wave with their little finger. Ain't Karma grand!

Once I was making a left turn out of an alley onto a main road and there was one over 100' behind the line of traffic which had pulled forward. I pulled out expecting her to move but ended up perpendicular to traffic expecting  for her to move, but still oblivious. The horn must have been 3' or less from her head when I gave it a good blast, and being in a van I could see the reaction well.

... the whole time the driver had her cell phone stuck in her ear and running her chops and never saw me >:(

I'll spare everyone the rant, but I see this multiple times a day.  Not to mention the texting.  It is getting ridiculous.

+1 I deal with this every day on my commute here in Boston
Congrats Andy-Just saw on the news this morning that Boston ranks second in the nation for worst drivers according to Allstate.

Does not surprise me. Everyone is on their phone at lights, in moving traffic (slow or fast dosent matter). I have no problems using my horn to get them moving at stoplights but nowadays I just leave enough so space I can drive around them  8)

A cager once got pissed at me and called the police from his cell. And HE was the one who started it. I got the impression he hated bikes "just because"....Another reason to stay away from people in cars using cell phones. Sometimes they're crazy. Avoid them if you can.

we have "hoon laws"here where if your doing burouts/donuts/drag racing etc on the street they impound your car and tow it right away, the fines here for using phones are pretty stiff at nearly 300 bucks I think?how about confiscating the #$%*ing thing aswell for 48 hours?some of those impounded cars have also been reported to have had windows left down on purpose during rain and foreign matter in engines along with body and tyre damage.

Dave, it sounds like they're taught to 'pay attention or pay the price' over where you are;I think confiscating they're little 'toy' could help here...

Or, design ALL cell phones to shut down any time the user is in close proximity(say, 5 ft,) to a running vehicle. Force the use of Bluetooth, etc. at least. That would be a good govt. mandate, (for a change), which would make a lot of people mad, but the good might outweigh the bad. Especially for the morons who think they need to text while they drive.

Was it terry in  Aus that was talking about a pulse generator that disrupts calls within a small area, like in the car next to you?  Highly illegal but useful tool.

Faux, true. The U.S. FCC would take a very dim view of such a device. Some have tried it in movies, etc. And were soundly thrashed for it.

By the Dulles Airport is CIA building and nobody can use cell phone near that building - I believe they have some kind of a "force" field there.

How come?...Just curious.....Guessing there's occasions where that kind of thing might be misused or mis applied? Never really thought of it that way...

DH, yes. You are basically broadcasting an unauthorized radio signal. Theory being they might interfere with other radio traffic. For example emergency response, etc.
