1978 CB750K Rear Shocks !!
« on: November 17, 2014, 08:27:21 PM »
What are my options? I like to keep the look as close to stock as possible but get some new performance.

I would greatly appreciate any recommendations.

ICON (formerly known as Koni). Konis is what I have on my K7, and I can highly recommend them. However, I have only seen them with black springs (red back in the 70s) which is perfect for the F2 but not original for the K7/K8. HAGON is  the choice of many here, but I never had them. I might be wrong, but I believe you can get Hagons with springs in the appropriate color--in which case they would meet your demands entirely.

Thanks for the info, but unfortunately I cant seem to find the Hagon for the 1978 year. I believe the base for the is slightly thicker than previous years, correct me if I am wrong though.

The 77/78 K7/K8 are mostly identical. They have identical shocks and rear swing arm (except for the Japanese specs K7 with rear disc and F2 arm). Because the K8 was only sold in North America, it isn't always listed. But, actually, my Koni shocks on the K7 also fit earlier models so that compatibility is even greater and you most likely can use the shocks from earlier models, i.e., the Hagons are probably identical for them all. But, again, 77 K7 or 78 K8 use identical shocks from factory.

I just recently bought pair of YSS with chrome spring & 330mm length https://www.caferacerwebshop.com/en/yss-honda-cb-twin-shock-set-re302t.html

Let you know how they work next spring..

I have ICON (formerly known as Koni) and Racetech installed Valves /springs in the front...I have tried every setting on the Icons and and rate them way worse than the wife's 2010 Triumph Bonneville Stock rear shocks but far better than my old stock 40 year old shocks...I am going to save for öhlins

Can you provide more feedback / experience with front from racetech?
Also what exact bike you have and what spring (rate, length) you put in?

I'm considering the same for the front on my stock K7 750

Note:sorry for this question in this rear shocks thread...

Here is what RaceTech did. I shipped them my forks. They feel fine...I am not unhappy, but it was not life changing either. I wonder if I should have just done a front end swap with modern forks...
