God dang junkyard in here!
« on: December 13, 2014, 09:32:52 PM »
I had enough and decided to trade in the BMW today.  Couldn't tolerate the sciatic pain that the crouched riding position gave me.  But coming home I was thinking about the garage and all the motorcycle parts that I'm accumulating in there.

I got parts from past and present bikes that I won't use or can't see using.  Seats, mufflers, fairings, engine components, you name it.  I think the normal rational response would be to either e-bay it or craigslist it - but there's one thing I can't stand and that's dealing with the public.  I HATE, and I mean HATE, selling things.  Which is why I probably have all that crud in there.

Maybe that's just how it's gonna have to be - I ride, so I have all the stuff associated with it.  That stuff in the garage (and basement, shop, office, kitchen counter  ;D) is my legacy as a rider.

Selling on CL can be a pain but eBay can be a breeze.  If you post a good ad, there will be minimal questions asked, the auction runs it's course, they pay and you ship. Maybe you like all your junque?

Probably do.  I don't think I'm approaching hoarder territory yet, but maybe it's time to toss out that half-burned out stator from the Tiger.  or the dead batteries I never got around to taking to the hazardous disposal site.

Good start. I also no longer hold onto crap parts that I know I will never use and have next to no value.

Due to limited (available) space and a need to be efficient with what I do have, excess parts get listed on feeBay regularly. Other than the hastle of shipping and steep sellers fees you can't deny the effectiveness of eBay.

Tip: take pictures in good light and describe the item in easy to understand terms.

Also a great way to finance the next project.

Junkyard... hoarding...I can relate to this issue. Thought I've figured it out.Got extra parts, buy extra bikes and use the parts. Then at some point the extra parts that you aren't using can be considered "spares" for all of your bikes...Yeah , that way they aren't extra anymore.

This only works if you can use all of your 1st generation of extra parts, you must take them off the shelf or outta the box and mount whatever it is on the bikes you have ...or soon to have... the ones you sold don't count get rid of that stuff so's you can  rotate stock.
There are rules to this ,ya know.
All "new to you" extra parts not being used immediately will now be considered "spares".
There is however , a point in time when this reasoning no longer works. When this happens, it is no longer considered an overstock issue as you may have once believed.
Turns out it really is a real estate issue. That's right , a real estate issue, you don't have enough of it, you see. It's not your fault that when you bought the house , you had no idea how small it really was, or just how much room you would require at this later day.
But depending on the amount of land you have, this may be an easy fix ( it's allot like my motto, the more you have the better off you'll be), if you have no space rent space, if you have lots of land it's time for a small shed or giant warehouse. It's hard to tell really what you may require at a later date, that seems to be a common  rule especially associated with real state on a global basis.  See?
Whatever you do, don't take pictures of too much of your stuff. People might think you're a hoarder.

I keep it neat and tidy.  Well, that's the plan that never works out. I did ask Santa for industrial shelving though. and big totes.

Get a savvy and honest teenager from your neighborhood or an unemployed friend and offer him/her 20% of proceeds for everything he can post, sell and ship.

All you'll need to do is to consult on proper descriptions for each item.

I've got a storage locker that sure needs to be completely unpacked and items listed on ebay. I want to move and as long as I have that much stuff,I can't afford to haul it.

I hear you there.  I have two engine cores that probably should be scrapped.  Certainly wouldn't want to move them and they're just sitting around.

I know buy a bike that the extra parts fit, then sell it including all the spares. Or is that like digging a hole to bury your dirt in.
