I have the Cone 18" now. Working on getting my bracket weld/fitment correct. I can only get the muffler on 1" (max) over my header pipe. My old mac went on a good 2". I got the Cone on about a full inch and it was near impossible to get it off. Super tight fit. But is that enough? Might not be ideal, but will it cause any issues? I'm using a t-clamp at that 1" overlap and will have a rear support bracket/hanger.

Mine was about the same.
Sanded the paint off the OD of my kerker. It went on a little further.  A heavy duty clamp was added, too.

My 18" muffler went on fine but after welding the bracket on, I had to use some effort.

Likely heated it too much while welding and the muffler inlet got out of shape ever so slightly,  something to watch for.

I put an 82 650 in my 77 550 with the mac 4into1 with the cone 12" shorty. The inlet on the cone was a little flat at the seam. I just taped up a set of big channel locksand gave it a little squeeze and she slipped right on

I spoke with Cone about it - they were very good to talk to. They mentioned using a pipe expander to flare out the tip of the slip on. They said ideal/minimum overlap should be 1.5". I'm going to try to get to that before I do my final fit. They also said to add slits to the tip of the slip on before clamping. About 3/4" into the tip from end and about .10" wide. There is a seam on the Cone so I'm going to add two. If seam is at 12:00, I'm going to add slits at 3:00 and 9:00. They said the slits - or notches - will aid in clamping and assist in preventing any potential for air leaks.

Great plan. I didn't add any notches to mine, personally, because it slips on fine. But if you're going to expand it to fit, I would DEFINITELY put the cuts in.

Looking forward to the results :D

So - with a cone engineering muffler sitting on 4 into 1 pipes with the stock air box in place, what should my jetting size be?

I believe you can get away with stock jetting.

This would be for the Quiet Core muffler.

I've run stock jetting on mine (120/40), stock airbox. You'll likely need to adjust your air screws, though. I'm also trying raising my needles one notch to start this year. Going to do a plug chop first thing. My mid-range has been quite lean in the past.

Yes, this will be very close, and a needle shim will set you right.

Finally got this thing fitted. Had my local metal shop work on it. They flared out the tip of the Cone and added notches and they could still not get the thing on more than 1". There were perplexed and frustrated like me. I had taken them my header so they could test-fit what whey were doing. They ended up making notches in the collector end of my header and compressing that down and re-welding it back solid and smooth. It now goes on a full 2.25" which is the max depth of the Cone inner sleeve. Fit is good and I can rotate (with some force) to line up the Cone bracket weld to my hanger strap mount.

The first thing I initially had them do was weld the Cone bracket. I used my initial 1" fit. After not feeling great about that fit I wanted them to address the fit, then I would re-fit and measure to see if the bracket needed to move. Luckily it does not and it actually works better with the extra depth I've gained. I've only been able to fire it up briefly, but I liked what I heard.

Will do. I'm stock airbox, jets, etc. And this is the 18" quieter core. A friend of mine has the Cone shorty on a 4-1 750 with velocity stacks. I need to hear his again, but I was pretty happy when I fired the 18" up on mine for the first time.

Not done on this phase of the bike refresh, but I'm digging the Cone sound so much I posted the vid. 750 K3 with 4-1 (Mac?), 2.5" I.D. Cone Engineering 18" Quieter Core slip on. Stock airbox, 657B carbs, 110/40 jets, needle clip 4th from top, float 26mm, air screw one turn out.

Evan,

Know this is an old post, but just ran across it in my attempt to find the right exhaust components for 82 CB750K DOHC exhaust. Trying to do a 4 into 1 with slightly upswept reverse cone for cafe/tracker build. Want to use same setup you have pictured with 18" muffler, but I CANNOT find a 2.5" upswept/angled extension/adapter like you picture from header to muffler. I'd like to use the Cycle X header with the Cone Eng muffler.

Where did you find the chrome extension adapter?

I cut it off my MAC muffler. You could use any piping from any exhaust shop/auto parts store, really... especially if you plan to wrap/paint those parts.

Were you able to ever find anything? I am in the same situation, I have the 18" Quiet Core from Cone Eng and I am having difficulty finding an adapter/extension that angles it a bit higher.

Go to a muffler shop and tell them what you need. Easy to make. Then get it ceramic coated/chromed/painted/wrapped/whatever.
