My 750 k2 build
« on: March 29, 2015, 12:46:04 AM »
G'day, I have been looking at doing a honda cb750 for a while now as I have always liked old Honda's. So I picked this up on  Gumtree (like Craigslist but in Australia).  I knew that I wanted to go cafe style with this build and wanted a bike that was running. The previous owner had the frame powder coated, and had ordered a heap on new parts but hadn't fitted them. He had also blasted and painted the engine.
So having purchased the bike unseen and only from a lot of pics these are the things I'm no happy with.
- the paint job on the engine is terrible and will need redoing
- a lot of his work is sub standard but nothing I can't fix
- missing regulator, and start solenoid
-the muffler is homemade (and not well made)
- fork seals leaking
- rear brake locked up

The things  that I was happy with

- all new cables
- new controls on bars
- frames good
-new wiring harness(still in box)
- new side covers
- new chain and sprockets
- new brakes
- new headlight bucket
- heaps of spares/parts not fitted

So plans are.
-Paint In custom blue with k3 decals
-I have ordered the required electrical parts to fit the new harness
-Fit the rear guard untill I get parts organised for the frame chop I'm planning.
- have clip ons, 2 inch gauges with warning lights incorporated so I'll modify the top triple clamp to suit.
- cards have been sent to soda blasting
- Black rims with stainless spokes
- engines out,  full repaint.  It's running now but a bit rough so will need a full tune
- yamiya yoshimura replica's should arrive this week!

- forks off and polish and repair.
Looks like I have most of the parts to at least get it on the road.
So I'll try  and get some pics up as I go!  Looking forward to getting stuck into it!

Looks like you got a good starting place and know where you are going. Plenty of help here and I have even found many things cheaper through the forum from the states than locally.

My exhaust rocked up from yamiya this week (four days from Japan to Australia!) very happy with it. Only dramas is the po had scratched the frame putting the old exhaust on so I'm going to have to do some touch ups to that. My rectifier/reg arrived also and my carbys are back from clean and blast so plenty to do! Just need to order a battery and start solenoid this week and I'm good to start fitting the wiring harness.

Long time with no update, another addition to the family (beautiful little girl! ) and selling my house has slowed things up a bit, but a bit of progress has been made.
Forks have been rebuilt and polished, brakes have been replaced.
Carbys Hydro blasted and rebuild.
Tyres replaced.
New top triple tree, bars and gauges fitted.
New exhaust.
Wiring 50% done.
Tanks and covers are at paint.
So the plan is now. Complete the wiring, fit one of Frank's frame kits and a #$%* Load of polishing.

It's funny how plans change from the start to finish of a build. My original plans included frame cutting but now I'm heading more and more towards an original look!

Slowly progressing. Made a plate to mount all the electronical components on as I wasn't keen on modifying my battery box. Once everything is mounted I'll paint it.
Waiting on a flasher relay and then the electronics are done.
Tanks sitting at the moment with vinegar in it and then it's off to the painter. Thinking possibly a gunmetal grey.....
Also found an old rag in my tank so that was obviously some of the fuel issues I was having!

It keeps the wiring in place against the edge of the cover.

There's stuff rotating around in there, so I don't know. I wouldn't chance it. It could be ok, until it's not ;).  I would reach out to the guys in parts wanted and see if someone has a spare, or just make one to do the job.

That's weird. Gonna ask a stupid question... Did you replace shaft, and if so is it installed all the way in? if not, then that's my only idea.

No I didn't replace the shaft. It looks like the old cover that was on it had the same issue

It does look like the shaft is protruding a bit far. Is it possible for it not to be installed all the way in?

Do you have a picture of it installed? The lip on it should look like this in the end of the crank.
