If your chain is crusty, best to examine closely both front and rear sprockets and replace them all as needed, now.

Yes, Chris!  Also glad that you properly secured the bike to the jack with tie downs!  After a recent tip-over (on a stand) from another member, you cannot be too cautious.

You might try some mild polishing on your fork legs, too, but nothing too robust (buffing wheel) since the bike is suspended.

I plan on taking the front end apart and mildly polishing the front forks.  Also plan on respraying the trees while i am changing the bearings.

Yeah it was tough getting the bike stable on that stand because of that exhaust.. maybe next year i will change it out.

Doing the same work on my K7 at the moment, Ghost. Looks good & I really dig the bare tank. I've seen the bike you posted earlier with the black horizontal stripe & love that look.

I am still deciding on what seat to go with.. scrambler or cafe... my wife wants me to pick soon though because it was her gift to me for my birthday back in october.

Well i go the wheels balanced and they were pretty out of balanced. So lets hope that is one part of the front end vibration.  Tim from The Shop said my wheel bearings look good front and back. I think I might hold off on getting the new ones put in yet.

Here is what I did this weekend though..



Ripped boot... and the fork seals took a long time to get out because they were so corroded in there.



Here they are all taken apart.. ordered some new parts and i should be ordering new springs this week



Not much fork oil came out since it was all over my front end but here is how great it looked



Now to start sanding and polishing while waiting for parts..

Better that there wasn't much fork oil since that old stuff has such a robust aroma!  Lack of fork oil will also cause ride vibration.

I hope its cause between that and the balancing and the stem bearing that I will be replacing.  I think for the time being I am also just going to new springs just to be safe. Think i might go with the progressive to stop the front end from dipping as bad as it was last year. Also might just go with a 650 chain and not go to the 550 chain this year.

i had to use a dull screwdriver and try to pry them out.  I ended up hammering one side down just to break them free

Well i ordered a new chain.  I went with the 630 still. Being a 78 i didn't want to worry about the difference in sprocket offset that I was reading about right now.  Also ordered progressive springs and I am looking forward to finishing the polishing on the forks and putting them back together. I hope to try to tackle the stem bearings this weekend.  Any extra hints on how to do this. I have the manual and i am doing research on this as well.

Well I installed the stem all ball bearings tonight. Went pretty good with the help of my friend Dan.  Next is to work on the front forks and polish more stuff.  Ordered the k and n pods and they don't fit my carbs even though they say for cb750k. Looks like I have to exchange them for something that fits.

You can clear coat the tank in powdercoat and then (AFTER) line the interior in Caswell.

anyone know where i can get 44.45mm k&N pods?  the inlet on the carbs are 1 3/4 inches and everyone shows the cb750k pods are the 40mm.

Did some more work last night on some parts



Looks like this weekend I will be getting the front end back together and possibly the back end.  Trying to figure out the best way to paint the engine while it is still in the frame. Also need to take off covers and polish them.

I am planning on painting all of the parts except the removable covers which i want to polish.  I am tempted on black to hide the gas leak discoloration from one of my carbs that i have to fix. Not sure yet. I think black with polished covers would look pretty balls.  Or just go back to the silver.

Also tempted on painting the wheels, spokes and all black too..
