Waiting on wheels(the owner is painting them black :-\) and all body parts(he is having them painted either gold or burgundy), meanwhile I pulled out the old Yammie dial indicator and set the timing to 1.6 btdc(not sure if that is correct as I cannot find info but it should get me in the ballpark).  When was the last time anyone used one of these?????

Found a burnt point wire and had to make up a new one used the old ends.  The left wire was redone.

Larry,I still have my very accurate 'Suzuki' Made in Japan dial indicator timing kit from back then;I even have it in the orig. box w/ different length ends that thread into it.The last time I used it was when I owned my last Yam. RD350B. How's the condition of your ign. points(pivot shafts, etc.) ? I imagine those points aren't easy to find oem NOS  ::)

Mine is the Yamaha one in original box with two ends, probably made by the same Japanese company with relabeled box.  Is your box maroon? The shaft seems good, not rusted.

Steve,, I happen to have three sets.  I think HF sells an indicator.

I highly doubt HF sells indicators branded by Yamaha or Suzuki!    Either one of you guys want to sell one?!

You can make up a 'timing dial indicator' w/ an old B8HS spark plug Stev-o.I had a machinist 'fab' one for me once yrs. ago before I found the Suz. gauge. You just need a good quality(Japanese rather than 'china-junk') small dial indicator that has a outside shaft diameter that fits into a spark plug steel 'hex' piece.
When i find mine I'll post up a pic of all  the components in the kit & you'll see what makes up all the individual parts & then you can match them.  :)

IRC, more off road than on style but appropriate for this bike, don't think he paid all that much for them.  3 x18 front,  3.50 x18 rear.

Both wheels and new chain on so I have a roller ;) Keeping track of the hours with this app I downloaded called hours tracker-enables me to keep track of hours for each job and set whatever hourly rate I choose 8)  Up to 19 hours so far.

glad the owner decided to go with original chrome wheels rather that painting them black with a painted band...Larry

It is a roller right now, still waiting on the covers and tank, hope he decides to go gold rather than burgundy.  I have not started the bike, will not try until fork ears and headlight are installed-don't feel like connecting everything, disconnecting and reconnecting.  While it is off the lift I have a CB450 circa early 70s to make roadworthy(brakes, charging, tune, etc.)...

Beautiful work Larry, I love those old Yammy 2 strokes, and I'm always amazed at the tiny mileages you guys do, I guess the weather is the dominating factor on your side of the pond?

I like that timing gauge too, it reminded me that I bought one years ago in the early days of eBay, mine is a "Central Tool Co" gauge, made in the USA. Does this company still exist? I haven't used it as yet, I better go find a 2 stroke to play with so I can try it out! ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I have a Central dial indicator also but without original box, and the company is still in business I believe http://centraltools.com/.   Confucius say better to play with 2 stroke than self.  Thanks for the compliment....Larry

Nice 'find' Terry  8) That Central co. looks like the best option to get one of those timing sets.
I like that they're made right here in the USA

Thanks Terry.   but here is something way more impressive(THE MOST IMPRESSIVE HONDA EVER MADE).   That's right, the seminal motorcycle of motorcycles... the famous CB450.   Actually it is the latest job, client bought one and brought it to me to straighten out the charging and repair the PO's work.

Bike is very clean with a beautiful set of original pipes but there were some problems

no cotter pin and lots of loose hardware

bolts leading into the tires

bet  one can get the proper torque on this motor mount bolt

Cleaning all the terminals, replacing the negative battery cable, properly wiring the bike and it is charging.  Oil was overfull( combo  of gas and oil ???).  Just need to disassemble and clean MC and caliper and it should be ready to go .    Oh yeah, the bikes fenders really rule...Larry

The  local True  Value happened to  have the O-ring for the oil slinger

And THE MOST IMPRESSIVE BIKE EVER MADE needs tires

Least it doesn't need fenders :P

That's a nice looking old 450 Larry, I was never a fan but I knew a girl who owned one back in the 1970's and she loved it, she called it her "Two Wheeled Vibrator" and rode it around in skin tight jeans and T shirt, geez, I wonder what happened to her?

She had a 400F as well and used to let me dink her around on it, which was nice as I was way too young to have a license, but she didn't seem to mind? I wonder why I didn't marry her? Oh well, I better go get another drink...................... ;D

Owner delivered the freshly painted parts late last night 8) ;D

Project has gone along very smoothly so I am hoping installation of parts, final wire connections, fire it up and move on to the next job..... rarely goes that way though with these older bikes...Larry
