So here's my first ever attempt at Plastiguage.

I think the process went fine...but I am asking for help selecting my new bearings

1,2,4,5 – all right at, or just a tiny bit over 0.025mm

3 – 0.051mm

So if I am thinking correctly, more smoosh is good and my #3 is the one I might need to replace? What size?

Please help

70,000+ and they are STILL at .025 or less. Good oil changes.

Order a pair of brown AND blacks. You'll probably end up using the blacks (I'd try them first to save a 3rd time and repeat the other 4 while you're at it) but still have more clearance than the other journals. That's the best you'll be able to do and it should be fine with those 4 .025's. Reason I say AND is it will prevent you from waiting a second time and you won't have to pay shipping twice. You can sell the browns to one of us.

With that said I ordered mine from Yamiya in Japan on Tuesday. They were in stock and I had them by Saturday of that same week PLUS the shipping was about the same as ordering from the US. That is unless you order locally and pick them up. PLUS they cost me $9 each vs $14. The US$ does great against the yen. While you're at it you may as well see what else they have that you may need  :)

Thank Jerry...I decided to measure again...thinking that as I torqued the bolts in order I should have re-checked the first ones...so this time I did the order twice at 17.5 pounds...here's #3 again. I'm thinking it's OK

But I am still pretty confused about how you choose the correct bearing size. I have a set with a groove in them but they Plastiguage OK...what bearing color/thickness do I get?

Your 0.025mm readings indicate that the crankshaft surfaces have not worn down excessively, this means you can use the same size bearings as originally installed.  Standard clearance is anywhere from 0.02mm to 0.046mm so your clearances are pretty good.

Get the code off your crankshaft, it should look something like AAAAA-1111  the letters indicate the sizes of the crankshaft journals, the numbers indicate the sizes of the connecting rod journals.

Cross-reference each journal code plus the matching code from the crankcase, to determine the bearing to install.

For instance, if your crankcase code is B and your crank journal code is A, order Green.  If your crankcase code is B and your crank journal code is B, order Brown, and so forth.

Same process for the connecting rod journals, the rod code is etched on the side if the big ends.

If your measurements indicated wear, you'd order different bearing sizes to compensate.
