$99 ebay solo seat
« on: October 27, 2015, 09:48:19 PM »
Has anybody purchased a solo (ahem cafe) seat from those chinese/vietnamese ebay sellers?

The price is right, but just wondering if anyone here has $.02 to share on the subject.

Lookin at something like this one to replace my tearing stock seat.  Since the price of a cover is in the same ballpark.

I know their hardware aint appropriate for my 75 Cb550F super sport.  But I'm clever and have power tools.

It is a lot smaller than the stock seat and as you mentioned it does not have the provisions for the latch or hinge.

If it sounds like I know what I'm talking about, it's because I cut and pasted from someone else.

Where do you guys go to pick up seats without spending silly amounts of money?

youre always going to have fitment issues with overseas seat copies.

original seat pan.
cleaned, stripped and painted.
new foam, shaped to your liking, and dropped at the auto upholsterers.

It'll be worth it.

I can see where that sort of customization fits with the spirit of the machine.  But I am likely the Least Qualified individual I know to go about crafting a decent seat.
At least not without breaking the sohc4 commandment of "thou shalt not use skateboards for brat seats"

I don't know.  I'm guessing you'd be better than Jason Pierre-Paul.  At least you probably have both complete thumbs to work with.  ;D

OK...bad form to make a joke at another's expense.  I could see where that would blow up in my hands...err, I mean face.

Seriously though, a hacksaw blade and some foam. Foam is pretty cheap, have some fun with it.

I do know that I want whatever solo seat I get to have option for storage and a recessed tail light.  saw something carpy cooked up that is an inspiration.
