So I log onto Facebook after a 4 year hiatus, and what do I see people posting non-sense.  I don't get it.  It is either pictures of dogs, cats, or some inspirational picture.  I just don't get it. None of it seems relevant to me at all just a bunch of people posting superficial stuff or arguing about politics.

Part of the social media.  There are PR agencies paying staffers to form and push opinions on the social media.  How do I know?  Three of my former colleagues work for a company like that in DC.

Very interesting.  I would like to know who is paying them?  What kinds of opinions do they push?

I am not going there, no politics and all that rot, you know.  Let just say none of them is WASP.  It is  a team work, taking turns attacking and dismissing, foillowing a scenario.

Very interesting even if it does not relate to usefulness of social media in business.  Learn something new every day.

Reading up on the difference between pintress and instagram now.  So far I am hearing that Instagram is more for fun less serous stuff and pintress is more informational and product oriented stuff?

Thanks to everyone's help on this stuff.  I know it has to be quite the slog to educate someone on the differences in social media.  Kinda like teaching your grandparents how to use a computer.

Your funny.  Not only is it allowed it seems to be encouraged.  I tend to be an independent thinker so I afraid that may not mix well with the heard mentality found on Facebook.

Reminds me of that Star Trek episode with the Borg, "You must be assimilated".

Politics here consist of which motor oil to put in our Hondas.  I personally like GN4, Mobile 1 and Castroll 20-50 ha,ha,ha

Is this your site http://alexandriaseaport.org/?  Pretty cool.  I like the idea of an apprenticeship program to help young people.  My focus would be more on technology as that is what I have done for the past 15 years.

It is not "my site" per se, but I do volunteer there weekly.  We have had some issues in the last year or so that are not reflected on the site. We had an executive director who was trying to steer it away from the apprentice program to STEM in middle schools.  Not that STEM is bad, but there are plenty of people doing this, and nobody doing an apprentice program like we did. That ED was fired about 6 months ago, and a new one is about to take the position, hopefully getting the program back on track.  As for social media that is used there, it's Facebook.  My job there is to keep the power tools in working order.

Let's hope the new chief gets the program back on track.  I understand how apprenticeship can be used to build skills and confidence that will allow youth to try and do things they never thought possible.  Once they get a little confidence that can try other things in STEM or enter a trade program.  Exposure is the key.  You guys are doing a good thing.  Keep up the good work.

Steve-O,  Got to say I understand where you are coming from all politics is good for is to get people to fight.  I wish they would bring back the arena and put all those A-hole politicians in there and have them work out there differences.

If people post stuff on your page that's not to your taste, you can delete it of hide it.
If they are your friends, they might not take kindly to it. haha Perhaps leave it for a while then have a clean out, that's what I do.
I have over 700 friends and I haven't a clue who most are, they come to me and are usually a friend of a friend or a friend in common or mutual friend as Facebook call them, hahaha
