Motorcycle Classics CB550 article

Saw this today when I picked up the latest edition. Nice bike but I suspect he spent a lot more than he needed to to get a pristine '77 550k. At least, unlike me, he actually finished his project.

Neat, I loved this part of the article :
Further, parts that should have been painted were chromed or polished — or vice versa. According to Brady, it was a train wreck.

They where commenting on the non concourse "restoration" that wasnt done right by the PO and then they go on in the next paragraph to say this:

"Brady sourced new replacements and sent the frame, swingarm and stands out for powder coating."

I love it when a white gloving snoot  blatantly contridict themselves. The way I see it's all or none. A correct restoration they should.have painted those parts , no?
Is powder coating acceptable for period correct concourse restoration? Somebody set me straight here.

Never understood this desire to powdercoat. My frame has no more than just a few minuscule specks of rust the size of a pintip. How I maintained my frame? The way any Dutch boy has learned from his (grand)dad to maintain his bicycle: a cloth wettened with a fifty fifty mix of oil and petroleum. No big thing.
On the other hand, if a frame is already corroded, de-rusting and powdercoating is a good option ofcourse.

I don't restore bikes, but mod them.  PC is more durable than paint not only to rust, but to petroleum products (staining) and road chips.  I take care of my bikes, but they are not trailer queens.  I want the maintenance to be as easy as reasonably possible.

Thanks for the mention Cal ;) The cut frame I couldn't help, some $hit that POs do can never be undone. Frame kit wasn't a bad idea after the fact, and I agree with it being more of "should be" than "what was". The paint part though, I did give it a try and failed miserably. All for the best if you ask me, PC worked out wayyy better.
