I am still removing paint from the engine But with it freezing here in Florida (55*) I put together my ez bake oven. didn't know if it would work or not so did a test run got a 24x24 cardboard box it fit over the motor while on my mc jack.one hf heat gun and presto a oven it took about 15 min. to get to 200*,To my suprise it went up to 250* in about 25min.,put it on low and watch the temp back off.I believe I just have to watch the temp to cure the paint.

still working on getting the engine ready for paint ,I didn't like he stand I had the motor on so I took a old aquarium stand and mounted the engine to it. I'll be off work between Christmas and New years so I hope to get it done.

Would be a wise idea to wire the weights to the frame from multiple points so they will not slip or fall. Would be a good idea to tie the frame to the lift. A support below the motor when lifted would add stability when working on the motor. The choke plate on the 2nd carb appears to have a bent choke plate.

The ACV accelerator Cutoff valves on the sides are a rubber disc with metal plunger that manipulates the valve through a vacumn port. They need to be in good condition to prevent lean popping when decelerating.

The brass parts get a build up of a white calcium like hard substance. Larry Cargill on the CX forum has a good techniques for rebuilding and cleaning the carbs on the CX500 and GL500s, similar carb design/ same carb family of CV carbs. He pulls the brass and uses CLR for about 30-60 seconds before rinsing to neutralize. Larry figured out the correct numbered drills to chase the holes in the jets to prevent from cutting into the brass. That gets any build up in the jets that may linger. The CLR is aggressive and thus the brass should not be left in long. A good ultrasonic bath gets into the passage ways after the jets are pulled. It is amazing even after soaking in other cleaners that the carbs still expell dirt into the ultrasonic solution. It really isn't recommended to use the green Simple Green. It is pretty corrosive and has been banned by the USAF to be on base. They have a Purple version that can be used for the aluminum in carbs as long as you don't go above 50% solution strength. It is available from Home Depot, only place found.

Larry sells a good book as a guide that sells for just under $30. It is worth the money. A lot of the info is available in a faq but not up to date. I will have to dig it up when I am on the PC.

Thanks for the info on the carbs,I had clean them and had the bike running good before I tore it down I didn't have it on the road but just running . I'll have to sync them once I get the bike back together.
I will be securing the weights before I work on the engine I don't think it will be on the lift while working on it,I thought it would help get it in and out of the shed easily not so much I had to pick it up and move it by hand and kind of walked it in.

ACV is Air Control Valve
Georgefix on ebay has a lot of them , might have those that fit your...he was actually least expensive

Yesterday and today I painted the rims ,came out looking good but you can't tell in the pic I took I will take better ones tomorrow

I never got around to taking pics,want to and found a few missed spots want to touch it up and its shrank up. read directions I have to wait a week to cure.Got all the paint off the motor I could, removed all the covers going to paint. Now I am using VHT engine paint next thing to buy.

It was to cold to do much work on the motor. I did managed to get it in the paint booth and masked off a little.Plan on going over it with a red scottbrite and acetone and prime and paint with vht paint.

pulled the masking tape off the rims,haven't done much of any thing else. Had to take Christmas decorations down and yard work . Have to order my engine paint from amazon can't find the primer or clear around here

Just happened upon this thread and while our '80 650C is some different, I'm keeping up with yours, to see how it goes. Looks like you are making decent progress and lots the folks here, are a Ton of help with lots of experience with these too. Have a Good One.

Thanks, I have to order some VHT Paint For the motor and then start taking the forks apart. I feel very fortunate I found this form I read most post some stuff is over my head but I am learning alot.

Today took the forks apart. right off the bat the bottom bolt allen head was rounded,a #6 would spin around not even grab a little how they got it in without it leaking is beyond me. had fun getting the retaining rings out and found this.The rings are different not sure if normal or not and a whole in the topthe lower fork just the one is this right

The hole shouldn't be there. someone drilled thru to remove the seal ? I would fill it with an epoxy and clean it up.

I was thinking that but wasn't sure,the tow different lower rings makes me think that they changed one and not the other.

Got my VHT paint from amazon today so if the weather is good I'll spray the engine. Got to get the fork lowers ready for paint also.

I'm happy to hear that,I was hesitant but the shop I buy tires at recommended them and he had them on sale,which didn't matter I buy from this guy because he doesn't hesitate to put a car tire on my goldwing.
