Love those tanks!  Looks a lot like the CA160 we mess around with when we get the chance.  This bike belongs to the new owner of that 350 Four we looked at.  The start of a nice "pocket Honda" collection!

Love those tanks!  Looks a lot like the CA160 we mess around with when we get the chance.  This bike belongs to the new owner of that 350 Four we looked at.  The start of a nice "pocket Honda" collection!






          Thank you, for the compliment. The Sl350K0 that I have, is sort of a thing that a close buddy and I have going. To make a long story a bit shorter, my Buddy did some trading with another guy. I don't remember what he swapped off, but he got a near complete SL350K2 (with a perfect set of exhaust pipes/Mufflers on it. So, he finished that one up and it was sharp looking. He also got part of 2 other SL350s (K2 also, I think), along with an SL350K0 that was completely disassembled. And I mean, the seller had even removed the spokes from the wheels! So, after my buddy did the 1st SL350K2, He found out that a guy he knew (who had a used car lot) had taken a '80 CBX (and some cash) in on a trade and my Buddy wanted that CBX and talked the other guy into a deal on the CBX (the guy really wanted the SL350 7 paid some cash on the trade as well. So then, my Buddy and I did some trading around and I ended up with the 3 other SLs (2 K2s that were partials and the K0 that was completely disassembled. Anyway, through some other deals we had, he ended up with the 2 SL350K2 partials and he had gotten the SL350K0 Together as you saw it (Did the assembly, painted the frame, bought the "Reproduction" side covers & had it running). I have to come up with the seat latch, finish the wiring, take care of the seat (foam & cover), Paint the tank, side covers & fenders. I think there is some more, but I don't remember right now. My Buddy and I are as close as Brothers. And we have been through quite a lot together. And, btw, he was the one I got a deal on my CBX from. Sorry about going on, but I have a time trying to tell something, without going over on the wording.  :-[

          Now, I am kind of wishing I had documented progress & photos, from the beginning. But, back then, my Buddy was doing the work on this one and I had been slipping and hadn't been back on here, for quite awhile.

Finally, finally, FINALLY!  She is done.  And running absolutely beautifully!  I've been in hiding for the past few days contemplating whether to post my most recent revelation, the one which allowed us to finish this bike up.  I will give you all one hint....chapter IV...



Whoever can guess what were we're doing wrong wins...well...a running bike  ::)  Anyways here she sits happily waiting for her owner to pick her up.

I checked to make sure it wasn't impeding flow or anything and we look all good there.  It is a real bugger to get on under the tank, but it is worlds better than dumping gas everywhere...there is a latched release on the bottom so it shouldn't come apart unbeknownst to the rider.

Anyways, very happy to have this little thing back on the road!!  And that much more excited to finish my 350 Four.  She's up next, I promise you!

I'm glad you followed-through on the vintage Honda 350 twin rather than 'just enough to get it running and out the door'  ::) as I've seen So many PO's do to 350 twins;nice work.I imagine you might have had the choke in the wrong position for running when warmed up causing your rich running problem? just a guess,it happens.

You can make those hoses longer for easier access, just above the carbs. Having them that short is a pain to access the quick disconnect.

Winner, winner, winner! So embarrassing..but even reading and trying to understand I just couldn't wrap my head around it.  The only way I was able to "get it" and finish up the bike was to read along that chapter in the manual with the air box removed to visualize the choke action.  With the choke in the "Open" position, the choke valve is OPEN, this is the natural run state for the bike.  With the engine NOT being choked for air.





With the choke in the CLOSED position, the choke valve is CLOSED and the engine is getting restricted air.  This leads to a richer fuel mixture, good for first starting the bike (but not for prolonged running!!).





Anyways...with a better understanding of that system we were able to confirm that the biggest issue with the bike was indeed the human behind the wrench.   :-\  But I am happy to report that with this newfound knowledge we we're able to tune the bike sans-problem.  She is running like a rocket!  The fixes we did were all in benefit of the final product.  The new ignition will allow the owner more freedom from maintenance (and the old points were shot), the spark plug caps were at their resistance limit, the carbs had mismatched jets and one was completely locked with varnish-like fuel.  The quick disconnect is a nice improvement (and yes 540nova slightly longer lines would've been a better idea!), as is the battery tender.  The new tires are totally awesome!!  We definitely took the long way around but I think the new owner is going to be really, really happy when he gets this ol girl back.  She feels like a totally new bike.

PS I think the root of the choke confusion comes from A) a previous lack of complete understanding of the system (I though choke increased airflow...d'oh!) and B) the "Enrichener" mechanism on our airheads which is push DOWN to engage, the opposite of this choke system.

An "enrichener" is a different method of air / fuel ratio altering though, no?  A choke chokes the air, and enrichener increases the fuel (to untouched air).  Or so this is what I thought from my research.  (https://forums.bmwmoa.org/showthread.php?34090-Bing-Carb-Enricher-Choke-Demo)

Yes same net result but different mechanism.  Anyways..GLAD to have this bike running and happy to further understand the choke.  Now back to the 350 Four!

I think the CL350 may do like 90(not 150  :D) in 5th.. w/ it's larger(than a CB) stock rear sprocket;it would be interesting to know how it runs up there at redline in 5th w/ that ignition work,etc. you did to it.
