Been a little while since I have updated the build. Got the rear wheel wrapped up. Just needed the 992 gsxr caliper bracket and a spacer and all clears. Got the caliper and master in. rear set brackets are in but need to be modified to fit. They are extremely thick! finishing up the oil tank this week. It is very ugly but it should work out fine. need to get the lower suspension link brackets welded in and the brake caliper arm bolted to the frame, mount the coils and the frame will be done. Figured out a solution for the tail light since i do not have the money or skills to notch the rear hoop for it. hope to have the frame out for powder next week.

You can use this to clamp around the hoop, keeping the drill hole perpendicular, then drill your hole, move, drill, move, drill. Allows you to remove the outer skin of the hoop, and then file or Dremel out the balance for custom, recessed and flush fit.

Ah shoot thats genius! My idea will work for now. My overall plan is to get it on the road this summer. I think Ill end up keeping this one for quite some time and will refine it down the road. maybe big bore kit. we will see.

I like the amount of progress, but I am still wondering how this bike will turn with that long swingarm. Not my bike and not my problem, but I would hate to see you put so much work in on making the swingarm work if it ends up turning like a pig.

I know what you mean. I still am wondering as well. on the plus side, I do have the option of switching to a 750 arm which is shorter and changes the linkage design but - in theory - would be a direct swap and can retain all of the work i have done. I am hoping i do not need to test this theory as i really love how this thing sits. i have been able to push it around the driveway. it is a boat but its tough to tell until the link for the cushion lever is done and the tire is on. those 2 variables can drastically change the turn in angle. by the way, the tire is a 180/55/17

IF you thinking of going with a Honda period swingarm, I would suggest using a CB550 swingarm. It is approximately 1 inch longer than the 750 swingarm and accommodates a wider tire.

Well, whatever you want to call it. With the modern front, I see no need for a drag bike, which is what it will handle like if he uses the much longer swingarm.

Right now yes, head turner is the goal which i know is not everyones cup of tea but that is what the custom world is all about.

I couldn't disagree more, I can show you plenty of custom bikes that are far better than the original bike after customization, using good quality suspension parts, that , if used properly, would make a bike handle much better, to make a bike handle worse makes no sense to anyone that understands how a motorcycle is supposed to work.. Sorry but its true...

I get what your saying. But let me put it this way. there are a ton of styles of bikes that handle different from factory. Its the same as making a trike or making a drag car or making a lifted truck. Its about what the owner likes and what the owner wants to build. This is what I like so this is what i build.

I was just refuting your statement that "that is what the custom world is all about", that stretched rear end thing seems to be more of an American thing, I've been customizing bikes for over 35 years and never made one handle worse....Although, I may build a sweep the floor chopper at some stage, only a mild one though

It could be an American thing lol I understand what you are saying. I like being out of the box. I will say i am leaning toward keeping this thing for a while. It could see a couple different variations. the initial reason for this arm is because I found that it was the easiest to fit. this is my first truely custom bike and i have learned a TON about building bikes in just the last couple months of working on it and i truly appreciate everyones input. even if i get a bit stubborn

Progress update:
Pretty much wrapped up the frame. Hoping to have it and the rest of the parts out for powder coating by the beginning of April. Gsxr fender is trimmed up in the front. Got the tire and battery in from bike bandit. soda blasted the engine and painted it yesterday. Made a pan for the hoop to keep the dirt and stuff out of the rear end. Almost finished the oil tank. making the headlight and gauge brackets this week and fixing the rear set brackets since they are too thick.

thank you! Turned out better than I had expected. The engine is on a harbor freight crane. My engine stand is being used for a motor swap on the 68 suburban in the garage.

Been a while since ive posted. Pretty much wrapping things up to get ready for paint. started making a foam mold for fiber glass and began the fiber. not super happy with it so i may end up doing a metal cowl. also need to get a seat made. other than that pretty much everything is solved and purchased. enjoy the pics. if you have any questions ask away!

The progress looks great! I was going to order Devins new air box as well for my build but some vandalism occurred at my home that required the funds be spent elsewhere. It looks like such a good piece and hopefully performs better than the pod filters. I'm excited to see your final result.

Its a very nice piece as usual from Devin. I too am excited to see how it flows and the tune ability. starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel on the build. hoping to wrap it up by the end of the month.

Received all but the calipers back from powder coat. Started assembly with what I could. Just need the wheels, tank, fender and cowl painted, seat made, wiring and some small other bits. Progress is steady so far. Id like to say i am a month out till i fire her up but i said that a good 10 times now. Hoping to be finished the end of July early August. Enjoy the photos.

Hey Guys, WOW its been a while.... So to answer your questions on the airbox. its a cognito unit that uses the rubber boots and clamps. pretty sweet piece.

Quick update. I sent the bike to a fabricator with better tools and skills. He is making my cowl and seat as i ditched the fiberglass one. also he made me a new oil tank for under the cowl. Mine was crap lol. He got injured at work so progress is slowwwwwww. hoping to have it back before the end of the month but ive said that like 10x now.... Anyways I have not given up on the project just took a break. Lost 2 friends in motorcycle accidents last week so thats been heavy on my mind these days. I wanted to ride this summer so i did pick this guy up. 1995 suzuki intruder 800.

Yup Im back

Picked the bike up from the fabricator. Took a whole 6 months.... anyways the cowl, new oil tank, battery tray(opted to put the electronics under the seat and the battery under the cowl) are done. He felt bad for the delays so i got a killer deal and 2 seats which come on saturday. Next stop is wiring and getting the chain hooked up and starting her up then ill get it to paint.
