Bought a CX650 turbo HONDA
« on: February 27, 2016, 10:07:55 AM »
Been offered this HONDA yesterday, couldnt resist and picked her up today.

Sitting in a shed since 1995 and neglected since then. So lots of work to come.

Sold to me by a pretty lady. She drove the bike in the early 90th at the age of around 30.
Cool, wished I´ve seen her then.

The 650 was more rare than the 500.

Looks good mate, well done! The 650 was rarer than the 500 because they weren't a showroom success, even though they weren't a bad bike. I had a 650 engine that I was going to put into my CX500 custom, but I sold the bike before I got around to installing the engine. A friend of mine has a mint CX650 Turbo that he imported from the US, I must ask him if I can take it for a ride.

I think the ultimate Honda V engine has got to be the ST1100/1300 series though, what a great bike, a silky smooth tourer with exceptional handling, I think I better add one to my bucket list! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Bought this bike by accident and by flipping through the Internet and collecting info be more and more fascinated.

That bike in Down Under from John looks awesome. Would like to see more from his restauration.
You definitely should ask him for a test run and report.

I have no idea what is coming up to me and if I can handle it. Especially if there is hassle with electric, turbo and injection.

Actually,  I can't even open the tank cap.

Thanks mate, As you would have seen in the pics, John has 1 of every Turbo model made in the 1980's, and each one is like new. I'd be happy with Just the Kawasaki...... ;D

Nothing more fun in a straight line.  A blast when the turbo kicks in.  Check the stator wiring.  Solder the connection to make it better and use dielectric grease.  Main issue with stator was shorting at the 3 yellow wires.  Interesting that it has the 500 forks and wheels. (at least the gold colour is)

Interesting, Goldwings have the same issue. I had to remove the plastic 3 wire connector from the stator on my '77 GL1000 and solder the wires together. It was even a brand new connector since I ordered the parts from Vintage Connectors, but even so it melted. Once they were soldered together no problems.

done the same on my cbx 1000 1978...and that is a dry stator..heat..and oil damp just take some Wear on this lauqer and Flex and viring..but the fix is easy..if done before it shorts and burn all copper aut..
this later type bikes generator gives doubbel powet then the old sohc...so  stator vindings gets a lot  hotter...

They already mentioned the water pump(also the same w/ a CX500)especially if it's been sitting for a while it may have corrosion around where the shaft meets the seal but hopefully you just need a water pump seal.
75' CB400F/'bunch o' parts' & 81' CB125S modded to a 'CB200S'
I love the small ones too !

in 07-1994 at 58.000 km, their was an engine (down to the crankshaft bearings) and gearbox overhaul. That water pump oil-seal had been replaced.

Odd, they had to replace the oil pump but I cant find the water pump on this invoice.

Bike then got another 5.000 km on the clock and than had been de- registered at 63.000 km in 11-1995 and put into the shed.

Service book is complete, every 3.000 km serviced. Unfortunately I don't have all the invoices so I cant check, if their was any repair on the strator yet.

Hope I have luck with the water pump.

To replaced the water pump, the engine has to be taken out?

I believe so,  there is a thread floating around the internet that suggests using an equivalent Yamaha seal because it is superior. It was a step by step..

.... The 650 was rarer than the 500 because they weren't a showroom success, even though they weren't a bad bike. ....

This one was sitting in the dealers showroom for 4 years. First registration was 1987.

A Z-club mate remembers the dealer and the bike back in those days. He's been offered her for about 4.000 Deutschmark (about € / $ 2.000,00 today) when new but didn't take her.
