4 into 4 to 4 into 1 exhaust
« on: April 23, 2016, 12:19:49 PM »
Hi folks

I do have in my CB 750K2 a 4 into 4 exhaust that I want to convert into a 4 into 1 exhaust. Except buying a complete system, is there a way to just use my 4 to 4 headers into 1 silencer? thank you

Anything is possible with a good metal fabricator and welder, but you are better off purchasing an existing 4:1 system, it'll be cheaper and probably work better. Besides, the original ,4:4's can be highly sought after, such as the HM341's. You can sell them if they are in good shape, and put that towards a 4:1 system with money to spare. Good luck. Rick.

don't want to sell the 4:4 but instead use a collector that would allow me to use my headers with just 1 silencer. I'm wondering if that exists on the market

This isn't going to work well. How do you make a collector for two pipes on the right hand side to join two pipes on the left hand side, as the 4-4 sits? Sure, it's possible, but it's going to be ugly as hell, sit very low to the ground (unless they somehow route and collect where your airbox and battery tray would be? or perhaps collect somewhere after the rear tire?), and who knows how it will affect performance. 4-1 systems collect on the same side of the bike (almost always the right).

Good call on keeping the 4:4's, not a good call in wanting to chop them up when there are easier cheaper solutions available. BUT, it sounds like what you want is something like the collector for a F bike. The stock 4:1 have a collector like the one in the photo, this looks like a 4:2:1 setup. Good luck! Rick.

any cheap, light and 4:1 solution is good for me. I was thinking about using my stock 4:4 headers for budget related matters, I should look then for used collectors

the one thing that comes to mind that follows with your idea is a Dunstall exhaust. it would be like a 4 into 1 into 2.    good luck finding one ..... im sure its out there ....

A week ago there were two new jardine 4-2 kits on ebay that use stock headpipes.
