SOHC Bike Meet?
« on: April 24, 2016, 09:22:38 AM »
Is there any such thing as an annual show and swap meet? Regional  Meets, Get-togethers?

I ran a newsletter for years for the 1949-53 Ford Mercury people and we had annual meets - car show. flea markets vendor selling parts etc.

I'm not suggesting we do - just asking a question so, to maybe attend. Got to get away from the wife and have a guy vacation.

Or is there a major vintage bike show that the SOHC/Honda 4's attend?

Most of us are spread too thin distance-wise and otherwise to pull off much of a meet. In 2011 I set about to create the Relay Ride whereas our members and others could get together on a small basis by meeting up and riding our SOHC4s across the US, Canada, England, Australia. Over approximately 6 months we relayed our mascot Godzilla from member to member and amassed a trail of over 20,000 miles in north America alone. It has taken various forms since then but that first year was the most successful.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Rice-O-rama is the best Vintage Japanese bike show/swap meet that i've been to in this area. I live in CT and have been going for a few years. I'm fairly young and new to the SOHC and Japanese vintage bikes and my mind was BLOWN when an old racing buddy of mine brought me up there with him the first time. I will be going every year for the rest of my life. Lots of great parts and people to meet up there. They do a bike show to where you'll see some amazing older bikes.

It's in Palmer Mass I believe, ususally late August / early September I believe. I think they have a website too, if you have time, check it out. if you attend you will not be dissapointed.

Take it easy.

Ahum... I don't want to hijack this thread, but this is what I suggested 8 years ago. Let's accelerate the globe!
This forum being so succesfull, I’ve been thinking of an event in which we could all participate. We have our bikes ofcourse, but a come together would be a bit difficult for practical reasons like oceans and stuff. What else is there that we have in common? Then it struck me like lightning: it’s the old globe right under our feet! Now if only I could bring the two together…
Well… here is the plan! Let us all, on an agreed date and time, take our bikes to the road and line up in the same direction. Now, remember, the world turns from west to east, so it has to be heads west, tails to the east. Then, and on exactly the same second we will all – worldwide - open our throttles and accelerate as fast as we can. What I remember from classes in physic is, that when a force is exercised on a round object like a wheel or a ball, that object will … etc, etc. Well… the world is such a ball, ain't it?! That means that if we would all combine our horsepower at the very same moment, there is a good chance we can accelerate the globe a bit and knock a few seconds of the dreary 24 hours it takes her now to complete a turn. Wouldn’t that be something?!
Days will never be the same and clocks worldwide will have to be adjusted. Not to mention we’ll all live longer too!!!
Can you see the picture?! Terry in Australia will hand extra bikes to friends to create maximum momentum down under, Dusterdude will pull his weight in Virginia, creating clouds of dust in the process, Raúl and party will be high in the sierras for maximum spin. Britain will be Great again when Bryanj conducts a whole army of screaming 400fours and the German CB Four Club  will swarm out in unprecedented numbers melting down their autobahn tarmac. To add glory, and provided it runs east to west, I suggest the illustre French Amicale will do their run down the Champs Elyssees. Ofcourse we have to organise this well. Crucial is we all start at the very same moment. And ofcourse, on reaching red zone in top gear, we mustn’t commence to break. That would counteract the effort. Just relax and let your bike roll out.
As soon as we know who we can count on, we’ll pick a date. Let’s hear it!

This is a suggestion:

Now that I know about Ricearama in Massachusetts,  we could have a regional group meet there if the oganizers of the meet agree. We would park together and have a meet within a meet.

Absolutely. Bring a hammer, tool belt and I'll provide the BBQ. Let's arrange it around the June races and we can even get a few more people to join  ;D Or, we can meet at the track (I'll still provide the BBQ and you can leave the tool belt home). Everyone's invited, except Mark

If anyone wanted to ride to Galesburg Illinois, I put on cruise in's Sunday June 5 and Aug.  19.  We could add a meetup at either of those. Byron Dragway loves to have clubs show up either to race or watch, near Rockford Illinois.

Two Stroke guys have been doing it for 17 years now at Deals Gap NC. This year it is May 15 through May 21 2016. I have been going for the past ten years and it is THE EVENT that we all look forward to every year. What makes it so good is the area, arguably some of the best riding East of The Rockies. We ride the mountains of NC, TN, and GA all week. We are now even doing some Dual Sport Riding as well. Another reason it is a great meet is the fact that a member, Ric, takes the time to organize it every year. They take up the all the rooms and camp space at The Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort. Others, like our group stay at Fontana resort about 8 miles away. This year though we found a great cabin at a great price through VRBO on a trout stream. All bikes are welcome but 2 strokes are what sets it apart. Anything vintage, like SOHC4 Bikes works well with the mix too.

If anyone is around that area in a few weeks you should stop by and check out the 2 strokes. It would also make for a great spot for an annual SOHC4 meet. I know my Wife would love it if I started going there twice a year.  ;D

You a camper, 70?  Not a real big show, but fun, and at a neat club.  They do hillclimb and trials events there. Aug 19,20 & 21.
