Hoarder but I do sell. I can't ride 20 motorcycles or maintain them. I will very rarely sell one if I have multiples or if something I don't have and I consider more interesting comes along I will sell one to make room. As far as buying to sell? I don't think I have done that.

I got my 750K6 in 2009 and in the 7 years since I've acquired several more(that's a understatement ::) of these sohc4 bikes. I've not sold a nare one so I guess I'm not in no way shape or form a flipper ;D It's plain to see I'm not in it to make money, I'm only spending money. I just like having these old Honda's around I guess. Their good company. I think member Johnie hit the nail on the head of his definition of what a true flipper is.

To me a "flipper" is someone who buys a bike at a very cheap price, does nothing to it and turns around and sells it immediately for a nice profit. Good for them and nothing wrong with that. It is business plain and simple. I think those of us who fix up a bike and sell it are just sellers of a product we created.

well said!!!!

Not really.  I assume you have heard of home-flipping.  However, your definition is really more limited to a "quick flip," where not much improvement is made.  Other flips entail investment to reap more profit.  For instance, taking a non-titled, non-running bike and improving it to a titled runner will yield a higher margin.  Still other flips may involve rebuilds, restorations, restomods, customization/spec builds, etc.

Johnnie,

I get your point.  I'm not so happy about the guys who drive up the price of CBs simply by scooping them up on the cheap and inflating the price.  It's capitalism and opportunism but we end up getting the shaft when looking for a good deal on bike.

Amen to that bro! They are getting harder to find and when you do find one they think the bike is like gold covered in dust.

The key word Stev-o is "harder" to find :) Not hard to find. I recall years ago 750's were a dime a dozen. Of course, I am a lot older than you :)

Great responses and I agree that most of the bikes that get bought by a member here go to a new home in better condition and a chance at a better life than when they were found. Limited space and the ability to generate funds for better projects is a good thing. Lots of opportunity out there still to accumulate and make a few dollars in a friendly honest way. With the price of new machines there is a lot of value out there in certain bikes that can still get the job done affordably or possibly make someones day if they are the first one to get a shot at that "good one" .
Good Pickens out there you guys , that's what we all call the 'thrill of the hunt' !!  ;)

OK...new question:

Are you a hoarder?!

Well, yes I am! But only vintage bike parts, so that makes it ok, right?

Unless you got the smart phone with all the alerts etc. you may not be quick enough if they come across the net to compete with the experts. My cell phone still 'flips' open when I want to use it and is only good for getting me home if I have had to much to drink  ;D ;D  Hey I am a Flipper  ;)

I keep a spare cb750 under my trench coat.  You can see me at busy intersections in the hipster part of town drinking a coffee far too long to pronounce.

The only reason I sell a bike is to buy another one. At 57 years old, there are so many bikes I wanted when I was younger but couldn't afford them.  I can only afford them now if the price is right.  I don't buy anything because I need it, so I can wait for the right deal.
It is the only medication known for the "sickness"!  There is no cure, except death I suppose.

I was thinking about flipping high boy dressers, the sell for around $125 to $350 on craigslist.  New one are very expensive.  I got one at a garage sale for $10.

The secret to making money as a flipper is to find things from people who won't bother to post on craigslist.  Word of mouth is the best way to find deals on stuff.

The minute it goes online the price goes up.
