Aaaand I'm back!
« on: May 15, 2016, 03:07:28 PM »
Bought this this afternoon, 1975 550F. Original paint, Lesters, oil cooler (!), Kerker rather than stock. Runs well.  Has pods, but I have an airbox and original seat and front fender in my parts stash. Needs some TLC, but definitely not a project

I have an F seat, 2 actually, they came with the '77 F basket case that I picked up a couple years back. One of them is in pristine condition.

I have a few things to repair, it had higher bars at one time, so it needs all new cables and a shorter front brake hose.

Somebody love it. It has a bunch of chromed parts, the clutch cover, alternator cover, fork stanchions, front sprocket cover, cam end covers, valve adjusted covers. Unfortunately the chrome is starting for peel on pretty much every part. Ultimately I may pull the covers from my spare engine, polish them and put them on this bike. The gauge faces are rough too, faded and cracked.

On the plus side, the paint is in amazing condition. A few scratches, but no fading and the inside of the tank is in beautiful shape.

I am seriously stoked. The Lesters sealed the deal for me, even without them I paid a fair price, better than fair really, but those wheels made it a seriously amazing buy.

I looked at this one today too. Supposedly it runs, but the best we could do is turn it over as the owner's jumper box was dead. No title. He says he would take $500. It's interesting since I have enough spare parts to replace the forks, bars, seat, and rear wheel. I don't have a K exhaust, but I do have a spare 4-1 and a titled frame.

Don't feel bad, it only took me 2 years and even then exceptionally lucky timing. One person looked at it before me, but didn't have the money and another unlucky (or foolish) person cancelled his appointment to see it Saturday. The owner also made the mistake of not listing on the Chicago Craigslist, so not as many people saw it as could have.

LOL, when I saw the ad I thought there was no way it would slip past you Nick. That's why I only talked about it in a thread I had going over at the Other Bikes board. I didn't want another local to see it.

The seller said that someone was supposed to come look at it Saturday but cancelled. I knew once I saw it that if I didn't buy it there was no way it would last more than a couple more days. The seller is going over to the local Yamaha dealer today to buy a new Bolt that he has been eyeing. He decided that his skills were not up to maintaining an older bike and he wanted something modern with fuel injection that he could just get on an ride and would have a warranty.
