Lower CB500 forks/are these even the right ones?
« on: June 06, 2016, 09:18:40 AM »
So I picked up my newest project, a 1973 CB500 a couple of weeks ago. One thing I noticed right away was that even with the forks extending over the triple tree by about an inch, the whole front end was still about two inches too high. I disassembled to forks to look into figuring out how to adjust/lower them, and after comparing them to the parts fiche (see attached, that is for the 500), I actually think these are from a CB750, but am not sure. Anyone know if these are right for the bike, and what the best way to go about lowering it is?

It's possible that you have a 750 front end. It could also be 500 forks with extended tube in them. Chopperizing 500's and 550's wasn't unusual and the PO could have dealt with it by just sliding the tubes up the clamps to lower the front end.

I'm not particularly fond of consulting isolated fiches. You miss the overview. Sometimes a modificated part has consequences for other parts elsewhere in the parts list. There have been quite some modifications in front legs for the CB500. You can follow this in the Parts lists http://www.honda4fun.com/materiale-documentazione-tecnica/parts-list/parts-list-cb500
